Lex let out a curse as his left boot rocket gave out again, “Come on! Almost home.”

The rocket sputtered back to life, giving Lex the power he needed to finish his flight to his hovering base high above in Metropolis' skies. Lex growled as he bent down to exam his ruined boot. “Tim isn't going to like this. He already had to refit the laser sighting this week.”

“What did you break this time?” came a voice.

Lex looked up as Tim walked into the hanger. Lex let his gaze linger on the twenty-three year old young man that had so long ago stolen his heart, feeling the familiar warmth he felt every time he looked at Tim. “It wasn't my fault this time. Really.”

“Sure it wasn't,” Tim shook his head as he bent down and released the catches of the boot so Lex could remove his foot. “What happened?”

“Killer Croc. Think he was actually trying to chew his way through it.”

“Told you not to go crawling Gotham's sewers, but do you ever listen to me?” Tim said as he flipped the boot over to look at the thrusters. “Go take a shower and I'll see how bad it is.”

Lex smiled and nodded. “A hot shower sounds wonderful.” and headed off to the showers.

A good forty-five minutes later after Lex had scrubbed every bit of his skin raw to make sure he had gotten the smell of the sewers off him. He changed into sweats and a tank and head up to the labs where Tim was working.

“So? What's the prognosis doc?” Lex asked as he leaned against the table.

“You know that joke stopped being funny the first time you said it,” Tim replied as he poked inside the boot with something that looked like really long tweezers.

“And yet I keep making it,” Lex said with a grin.

“Give me two days to fix it,”Tim said as he rolled his eyes, “What were you doing going after Croc?”

“Believe it or not he stole some computer parts from S.T.A.R. Labs. Tracked him all the way back to Gotham and he still got away.”

“That's not his usual MO at all,” Tim mused, “Any thoughts?”

“There's been unconfirmed sightings of Owlman recently.”

“Owlman? We better give Batman the heads up if that's the case. This could turn nasty if Owlman starts recruiting again.” Tim paused in his work considering what Lex said.

“Batman? . . . Yes I suppose we should tell him what's going on. Not that he doesn't probably know already.” Lex said slowly.

Tim frowned, put down his tools and looked at Lex, “What's wrong?”

“Wrong? Nothing's wrong at all,” Lex said, waving the subject away with his hand and walked over to the computer banks.

“Lex who do you think you're fooling?” Tim said as he followed him. “You get like this every time Batman is brought up. Why? . . It's not because of me right?”

Lex's fingers still over the computer keys. “Of course not. I'm not that petty.”

“Of course you're that petty. It's part of your charm. But you know what Batman . . . Dick and I had, was in the past.” Tim said making Lex turn around and look at him.

“I'm sorry. I just can't help it. He's younger than me, rich, handsome, charming, and despite what you say there is still something between the two of you,” Lex said with a sigh not looking at Tim.

“Yes. Dick is charming and good looking and yes there's probably always going to be something between us. He was my first love,” Tim said.

“Hmm thanks for that pep talk,” Lex said as he tried to turn back to the computer, but stopped as Tim cupped his face with both hands and made him look at him.

“Hush, I haven't gotten to my point yet,” Tim said as he rested his forehead against Lex's. “Yes I care for Dick, but we grew apart and I met this crazy billionaire who wanted to make the world a better place. Said he had a plan and just needed someone to have enough faith to take the plunge with him. So I did and he gave me the world and his heart. I never once thought of looking back.”

Lex moved his hand to cup Tim cheek and then threaded his fingers through his hair. “My Tim. My beautiful shooting star. I truly don't deserve you.”

“Please don't say that Lex,” Tim said as he wrapped his arms around the older man and rested his head on his shoulder. “We both deserve the happiness we have. I love you.”

“And I you,” Lex said as he took a slow lingering kiss. “There will never be a day when I don't”

“Let's go home,” Tim whispered. “Let's teleport home and forget all about rocket boots and Gotham City and everything that goes with them. Just be Lex and Tim, just for one night.”

“For you my star, anything,” Lex said as he pulled Tim into his arms.
