Bruce slipped into the study, the sound of the party muffled by the closed door. It took a moment for his eyes to adjust to the darken room and to see Clark standing by the fireplace. “It is customary for the engaged couple to attend their engagement party,” he said dryly.

Clark smiled as he watched Bruce come in. “We'll go back in a moment . . . I have something to give you.”

Bruce had a curious look on his face as he joined Clark by the fireplace. “Oh? And what would that be?”

Clark smiled at his fiance. Cupping his face for a moment enjoying the fact that yes Bruce was his, “I know we have the formal ceremony to present our engagement rings to each other at the beginning of the week, but I just wanted . . .” with a sigh Clark dug a hand in his pant pockets and drew out a small box and handed it to Bruce. “Thought maybe this could be just us.”

The engagement between the two, the joining of the Wayne family to the House of El, had been a media whirl wind. Between the media attention and the various ceremonies that Kryptonian customs called for all aspects of the pending wedding had an audience of one kind or another. So Bruce could understand the need for a moment for just the two of them.

Bruce opened up the small jewelry box to see a beautiful sapphire blue jewel on a gold band. The S-shield, symbol of the house of El was engraved on either side of the stone. “Clark, it's beaut-” suddenly the stone turned a brilliant ruby red and then back to the sapphire. “ . . . I've never seen anything like it.” Bruce said in astonishment as he watched the ring shift back and forth from blue to red.

“It's called an El stone,” Clark explained. “The only mine of them is on my family's estate on Krypton. My ancestors decided to adopt the stone's colors as our House colors.”

“It's a rare and beautiful ring,” Bruce said as he took the ring out of it's box holding it up to admire it. He look up at Clark and felt a wave of emotions wash over him. Bruce had never really thought he could love anyone as much as he did Clark. He held the ring out to Clark, “Almost as rare and beautiful as the man who's giving it to me Please put it on me?”

“But the ceremony . . .”

“Will still be there. Right now I want this to be for us. Just us.”

Clark took the ring and slipped it on Bruce's finger and let the billionaire tug him closer for a kiss. Bruce wrapped an arm around Clark's waist, his other going up and his hand tangling in Clark's hair. He hummed possessively as he backed Clark up against the brick of the fireplace, pushing himself flush against him.

Clark gasped as they broke the kiss, “Bruce . . . the party . .”

“Can wait,” Bruce said as he began to undo Clark's tie. “Right now we have our own celebrating to do.”
