A/N: And this is where I start getting over due birthday presents out to people I owe them to. Some of these are so late some might not even know I owe them one. Case in point, this is a very very very late present for
museofspeed . So sorry it took so long, just think of it as a combo extremely late b-day present and a really early present for this year.
“You like him don't you?”
Bart looked up in surprise The question had come from a blond haired boy about Bart's age sitting at a table next to his. The boy leaned back with an exaggerated ease, a pair of sunglasses perched on top of his blond head, and a smirk on his face. It was Tim's graduation party, at long last Tim had finally got out high school - that he did it with honors didn't surprise anyone. Tim greeted his guests, getting congratulatory hand shakes and good nature ribbing from family and friends and Bart sat at a table and watched his long time crush unobserved. At least he thought he was unobserved until the blond had spoken up.
“Excuse me? What did you say?” Bart said a little puzzled by the boy.
The boy got up and joined Bart at his table, his eyes sweeping over Bart taking every bit of Bart in. “You like Tim. It's fairly obvious.” he said matter of factually.
Bart raised an eyebrow at the boy, “Who are you?”he asked perplexed.
The blond's smile turned dazzling as he held out his hand. “Bernard Dowd.”
“Bart Allen,” Bart said as he shook Bernard's hand.
“Nice meeting you ,” Bernard drawled as he let go of Bart's hand. “Now about your infatuation with Tim . . . “
“I'm not infatuated with him.” Bart said quickly - maybe a little to quickly?
“Oh? So you've just been watching him for the past couple of hours because there's nothing else to do?” Bernard questioned.
“I - I haven't been . . . why would I . . . he's one of my oldest friends.” Bart fumbled.
Bernard chuckled softly, “Relax, it's not a crime to ogle, and our dear Mr Drake is definitely ogle worthy.”
Bart cocked his head to the side and really looked at Bernard. The blond almost oozed with a causal ease as he leaned back in his chair and smiled brightly at Bart. His eyes would every once in a while darted over in Tim's direction. Probably quicker than anyone else would notice, but not quick enough for Bart to miss. “So how do you know Tim?”
“Oh Tim and I go way back. We're practically joined at the hip” Bernard said. “Except for when he disappears for weeks on end. Though that does just make him more interesting don't you think?”
“Interesting?”
“Well of course!” Bernard said as he leaned forward and threw and arm around Bart's shoulders. “It's always the mysterious ones that catches the eye. One day we might even figure out Tim.”
“You're not some sort of stalker super villain right?”
“Super villain? You've been reading too many comic books.” Bernard laughed.
“Stranger things have happened,” Bart said with a shrug, wondering if this conversation was going to end up hitting too close to home - he always ends up in those kind of conversations.
Bernard regarded Bart for a moment and then laughed, “That almost sounds like something Tim would say.”
“And that's good?”
“Sure it is,” Bernard said as he leaned back again. “It means we have something that would interest our dear Mr Drake. Or is it Wayne? Or maybe a combination, Drake-Wayne perhaps?”
“I think he's still using Wayne,” Bart offered, “but I like the idea of Drake-Wayne. We have something to interest Tim?”
Bernard's grin grew, “I knew we'd end up thinking alike. And of course. Tim would see a frontal attack coming, but if we surround him on both sides. We'll win him with our charm.”
Bart actually thought they'd end up unconscious from nerve strikes. Well at least Bernard would. “I really don't want to be Tim's stalker.”
Bernard snorted, “Of course not, but there's nothing wrong with being his friends. Very very good friends. Come on, lets go talk to him. He's with his friend Stephanie. Did you know at one point I didn't think she existed?”
Bart thought Tim had the strangest friends, but it was nice to find someone who understood that having a crush on Tim wasn't always easy.
