My ex-wife called this morning to tell me she had taken our daughter out of gymnastics and put her into swimming. I think that is great. Swimming is the one activity that I could see actually becoming a passion for our daughter. That little girl can already swim as well as I can, and she's only 9-years-old. And people tell me I'm a strong swimmer, but I would rather think of myself as just "proficient", and not really "strong".
That makes me happy. I didn't like her being in gymnastics. She was really good in ballet, and I would love for her to keep doing that, but my ex-wife didn't want her doing that for whatever reason. Kayla (my daughter) also didn't seem to enjoy ballet too much. But she loves to swim. I think this will be really good for her.
But, the swimsuits she needs cost over $70! Supposedly you can find them cheaper than that here or there and at certain times. But still, that's what they are on Speedo's Web site. She has to have multiple swimsuits because the chlorine in racing pools destroys suits over time. Or so my ex-wife said. My ex-wife was only able to afford one suit and goggles, so she asked if I could buy her at least one more. So I've been looking at the Web site.
Girls' Speedo swimsuits I'm kind of excited. There's so many to choose from! I'm afraid I'll get something that she won't like, though, and that would make me sad. Not really because of the money, but just because it's something that I got her and she didn't like. I've already accepted I'll be paying for it, and that's okay.
We started talking about how Kayla could totally do this through high school and maybe even college. This is probably the only one thing that Kayla would ever do that in. She certainly isn't going to be a soccer player; she's good at softball but just isn't very competetive and didn't enjoy it; she's great at ballet but didn't like it; she's good at gymnastics but didn't seem to like it, either; she enjoyed cheerleading and was good at that, but I have my own reservations about having a daughter who is a cheerleader, and she only did that once a couple of years ago. But she loves swimming, and it isn't really a direct person-on-person competetive sport, like soccer or softball.
I wonder if
sampants has any comments on this. Probably not, I don't think she likes me much. Oh well. Maybe someday my daughter will beat her son in some kind of swimming competition or some crap. I don't know how that would ever happen, a boy against a girl, but it's fun to stoke the drama!
Oh, and my ex-wife said that the high school that Kayla is zoned to be in has had 5 swimmers go into the Olympics in the past decade. I find that hard to believe. I'll have to look it up on the Internet.
