Crazy evening

So, as I was about to pack up and leave work today my boss comes in and asks me to bring something on Friday because we have an intern leaving. She’s making a cake, so mine should be savory. Ok. Well… except I’m going to the DC United vs. LA Galaxy game tomorrow night (Beckham! -- if he plays). So that means I need to pick out a recipe and go to the grocery store on my way home from work tonight. So, I peruse recipes online. I would rather have picked something out of one of the zillion cookbooks I have at home, but I’m in a rush and at work. So I grab a couple of decent sounding things from the web and hit the store. Yum…. Buy that stuff and some stuff for various other recipes this weekend.

Walk several blocks with heavy bags. Get on crowded & hot metro to get off and walk several more blocks to my building. Get in my building to discover the electricity is out. Yea. 10 stories later, bags are REALLY heavy.

Decide instead of cooking the chicken and black been burritos I had planned for myself I’m going to go out because I’m trying not to open the fridge and let more cold air out. So, I head to Jaleo for a lovely dinner of Costillitas de cordero con cerezas "Santa Coloma de Cervello" (Grilled lamb chops with cherries) and Espinacas a la Catalana (Spinach sautéed with pine nuts, raisins and apples). Yes, Jaleo is owned by the same chef as last night’s dinner extravaganza. What can I say, I love his food! I’ve had both dishes multiple times before, so I’ll spare you the flowery language again… but YUMMY! One of my concerns of living here is that I’m going to forgo trying the other reputable establishments in the area because I’ll hit Jaleo every time I decide to eat out. And quite frankly, it’s possible that will be the case.

Then I headed to the liquor store to pick up some Brandy needed for the work recipes (why not?). Head back, thinking the electricity must be on by now….

Nope. 10 stories again, this time with liquor instead of canned goods. (What you thought I was going to only buy the one bottle I needed?)

Tired. Hot. Unhappy.

Luckily it was only about 30 mins more before the power came back on.

I’ll let you know if the recipes turn out ok. And if Beckham plays.

Off to read some fanfic before bed.
