Unexpected "Outing"

Sep 22, 2011 09:12

With a well-sated sigh after a refreshing shower Eduard sat down at his computer for a moment to check a few things before he planned on wandering out to the living room to watch some television. He smoothed out his hair and efficiently cleaned his inboxes, noting with no shortage of satisfaction that the excess raid gear he'd put up for auction ( Read more... )

"Pretty bad, Gil? I think half of europe knew who you were. Not to mention the entire island." Eduard got in the affectionate little dig, trying to suppress an outburst of laughter. Gilbert soon caught on and gave him a look and a gasped "hey!" which made left Eduard unable to restrain himself. Knowing that his parents were okay with them lifted such a burden from the blond's shoulders that he finally felt he could let his guard down and be as relaxed with Gilbert in front of his parents as he was when it was just the two of them. "Don't worry though, ema. There's nothing to worry about now." He turned back towards the screen, taking a few shaky breaths to calm himself.

Eduard's parents watched the exchange with ever-widening smiles on their faces. Not even when getting his first chemistry set or high powered telescope had they seen their son so happy. His mother especially felt her reservations concerning her son's relationship ebbing away when she saw just how happy and at ease he was. Sure she was still disappointed that she wasn't going to be getting any grandchildren in the future, but being such a sucker for love stories and cheesy romance paperbacks she couldn't help but "awwwwww" at the young couple. "Oh, Andrus. Remember when we used to be like that?" She turned to ask her husband who laughed merrily as he curled the end of his mustache around his finger.

"Used to? Come on, Hele. We're not THAT old yet." He scoffed, giving his wife a kiss on the crown of her head before she once again turned her attention to their son and Gilbert.

"Come on. Out with it, boys. How did you two meet? You still haven't told us yet." Eduard's mother questioned, easing back into her chair and reaching over to the desk for her coffee.

"Well," Eduard cleared his throat, settling into a comfortable position on the half of the computer seat he was still sitting on. "Ti dragged me out to a dorm party with himself and Berwald over at Gil's dorm. Oh...that was not long after New Years, wasn't it?"

"Ja." Gilbert answered, remembering the party clearly even though he, Mads, and Arthur had gotten entirely too drunk that night. "Two days before school started back, and you made me that awesome beer hat. You were the only person that understood what my drunk arsch was talking about. And you wonder why I spent the next month bothering Franny and the Danskie about you?"

"You didn't have to do what you did before the boat trip though." Eduard scoffed but was cut off by his mother before he got a chance to continue.

"What boat trip, kullake?" She asked, taking a sip of her coffee and smiling at the story.

Eduard replied to his mother's question, his face not turning quite as red this time, even as Gilbert's arm returned to it's casual place around the back of his shoulders. "Oh. Berwald and a friend of ours from the house bought a boat and a bunch of us got together and went on a weekend trip out to sea for valentine's day. This nerf-herder over here abducts me from the mall and ends up making a big scene when he drops me off at the docks and SOMEHOW I caved in and invited him along. Well, we got to conversing, some uh...some things happened and he asked me out the next morning after breakfast while we were fishing. It's been like hydrogen and carbon atoms ever since, I guess you could say."

His mother gripped her cup and beamed a giddy smile. "He asked you out on valentine's day? Oh that is so SWEET! Eduard, why didn't you tell me about this before, and Gilbert...where on earth can I find more of you??"

Both Eduard and Gilbert were frankly flabbergasted by the positive reaction their news was getting and just how well his mother seemed to be taking it all now after having gotten over the shock. Although after giving it a moment of thought, Eduard couldn't really have been surprised. His mother did read a lot of those cheap paperback romance novels and gushed over romantic comedy films with her friends. What was so different about their story? Not much, in truth. "Oh goodness, ema. I don't think I could keep up with more of him. One is difficult enough. So, ummm...you two are okay with this? Honestly, this is why I hadn't called you in a while. So, jaa. Now you know."

"Seriously, kullake? Am I okay with this?" Eduard's mother blinked at her son with a look of surprise. "You're my väike mees and you always will be, Eduard. I'm just happy that you're happy, Eduard. You're more than smart enough to figure that out."

"Yes, Eduard." His father smoothed a hand through his beard, twisting the ends as if he were thinking about something. "I think your vanavanemad will just be happy in their old fashioned way that you're not dating a ruski."

At the visible and verbal acceptance from both his parents, Eduard's entire demeanor changed. His body eased up, he smiled and laughed more readily and even leaned his head against Gilbert's shoulder. His biggest worry in the entire world was suddenly completely nonexistent and he felt lighter than air. Gilbert seemed to notice this as well and casually kissed Eduard's inclined head, enjoying the fresh smell of his shampoo and the glowing relief he could practically feel radiating from him.

"You have no idea how much he needed to hear that." Gilbert let out a chuckling sigh, smoothing a hand along Eduard's arm. "He probably won't tell you, but he'd been stressing like crazy for a while over this. He would stay up all night fidgeting around like a kid with ADHD and writing crazy physics stuff on his whiteboard. I barely managed to get any sleep the whole time."

Suddenly and without warning, Eduard's isa let out a whoop of laughter, his hand resting on his stomach like santa claus in his jollyness. With a good deal of effort and surprised looks from everybody else present, he managed to calm himself enough to speak. "Gilbert, you sly dog, you." He chuckled, running a hand through his beard. "How long have you been warming my boy's bed then?"

"ISA!" Eduard interrupted, completely red faced.

Eduard's mother came to the rescue, giving her husband a good bop on the arm for his outburst. "Andrus, shoosh! As long as they're being safe about it it's entirely up to them. But..." She returned her attention to Gilbert and Eduard. "This is fantastic! I can still be a vanaema someday after all. Make sure you play it smart and get your futures sorted out, but I'm counting on you two to give me plenty of grandbabies. You're smart boys, you'll find a way."

Despite being press ganged into somehow producing offspring someday (he had no idea how it was even possible with their equipment), Gilbert was really starting to like Eduard's parents. The "real Gilbert" that Francis so often spoke of sat there in front of the computer screen, holding Eduard close, certain that they could have what Eduard's parents had someday. They seemed so relaxed with one another and still so much in love after so long and he knew that's what he wanted too. Call him a pansy or a sap at your own risk, but Gilbert Beilschmidt was a fool in love.

"Alright, Eduard dear. Your isa and I need to get going so we can pick your vanavanemad up for dinner." Eduard's mother spoke with a lingering smile. "It's was wonderful meeting you, Gilbert and remember...give me lots of adorable grandbabies, and if you make my väike mees cry I will fly over there and kick that nice bottom of yours all the way back to Talinn."

Gilbert couldn't help but laugh. This woman had quite the spark to her and he could appreciate that. "Ja, I'd expect no less. You've got nothing to worry about though. I plan on keeping him." At that, Gilbert gave Eduard a squeeze and ruffled his hair, to which the now considerably more relieved blond pushed back playfully.

"Ema, Isa...aitäh. Gilbert teeb mind õnnelikuks. Ma armastan teda rohkem kui midagi muud. I''ll make sure to call more often. And Ti and I will be coming home this summer for the reunion with Gil and Berwald in tow, so we'll see you then."

The final goodbyes were said and the video chat ended. Eduard looked at the blank desktop for a moment before letting out a long breath and walking over to his bed to flop down on the mattress in relief. Gilbert spun around in the chair and watched his boyfriend's movements with a grin. They'd just gotten over the second major roadbump in their relationship (the first being the medical screenings) and it felt damn good to simply bask in the glow for a moment with Eduard.
