It was a surprisingly warm day outside and Eduard had trooped out of the compound house for his first solo venture from the new location. The group was going to be heading out on a boat trip to spend the weekend on the ocean and he, in his infinite nerdy reclusiveness, had absolutely nothing that would constitute suitable swimming or recreational apparel. So he really had no choice but to take the trolley into town and venture into the mall. He honestly had not the first idea of what to look for other than the fact that he needed something that resembled pants but just a little bit shorter. He was glad he'd gone to the mall with an objective in mind, because he tended to come home with a new piece to his collection of gadgets whenever he let himself wander aimlessly.
He'd also spoken to Berwald earlier in the day and had been made aware that he was now under the notice of the school's infamous Bad Touch Trio. Whether that was a good thing or a bad thing, he had yet to decide, but he still kept a watchful eye out as he made his way through the Valentine-crazed masses of people packing the glittering commercial mega-structure. All he did was make Gilbert a beer helmet when the drunk albino had somehow determined he was genius enough for it before shoving the components into his hands. He hadn't counted on the kiss and stamp of "awesome" afterwards, and that probably should have been his first clue that he was going to have quite the time on his hands.
As he was browsing the stores for shorts to swim in, he swore he heard a tiny "peep peep" off in the distance, but there were so many displays and people all around him that he merely shrugged it off as a hallucination brought about by his natural social anxiety and his paranoia over what Berwald had told him earlier.
What made it worse was when he swore he saw that little yellow bird fly over and around the dressing stall when he was busy disrobing to try on the one pair of shorts he decided he liked. Eduard's pulse began to race as he edged his way towards the checkout.
Waiting in line, Eduard eyed the candy on the rack to his right, also spying the assortment of specialized Valentine's cards the store had on display. There was one that caused him to actually laugh so much that he failed to notice when the tiny yellow bird that had indeed been following him landed on top of his head. The card had a simple background, much like the apple iPod advertisements, and had a picture of a Star Wars stormtrooper on it holding a red heart-shaped box of chocolates. The caption read: "don't close the blast doors to your heart." He couldn't help but laugh at that one even though it made him kind of depressed that he really had no need for any of that stuff.
It was at that moment where the bird on his head peeped up and Eduard found himself pounced on and hefted up off his feet so suddenly he couldn't even cry out for help.
"Kesesesesese....You liked that one, didn't you Birdie?" Oh no...Gilbert... "You don't have to keep begging. I'll get it for you. Let's hurry up and get going!"
Gilbert cackled in a startled Eduard's ear, tossing money down and snagging the card from the rack before lifting the stunned Estonian over his shoulder and trooping back out into the crowded mall.
