...if you actually intend to ever WRITE fic about this series, you have to stop reading it first.

Translation: I WILL write something but for right now OMG YAY FIC. *twirls*

*flails hands around* I LOVE His Dark Materials!!! It was one of the staples of my adolescence. When I needed a good cry I would read the end of the third one. And the concept of daemons is so wonderful, I am over the moon that someone applied it to Sherlock! THANK YOU for such a wonderful rec, I can't wait!!

I actually haven't read ANY of these, so again, thank you! Since you're also new to fandom maybe I'll return the favor and link a couple of my favorites so far? Maybe you've read them, maybe not!

Everything by verityburns, which you can find in her fic index. The Road Less Traveled was her first fic and definitely my favorite - it'll probably stick as my definitive "Sherlock and John fall slowly, exquisitely in love" story for a while.

I'll bet you've heard of this one, but just in case: Alone on the Water. I made the mistake of reading this immediately after finishing Reichenbach Fall and I was a MESS. A sobbing, snotty mess. It's so painful but so beautifully written. That author has also apparently done a long long AU in which John and Sherlock are authors, Performance in a Leading Role and it seems to be a favorite of the fandom, though I haven't read it yet.

Yes Yes Yes made me wary with its warnings initially, but I ended up LOVING it. Great writing, funny and thoughtful, and I really like how the character Mary is brought in.

So much good fic! *beams* I'm afraid my productivity at work is taking a serious hit though...

EEE I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU RIGHT NOW. Legit goosebumps, I can't wait till you read that, you must come back and tell me how you liked it, please?

YAY I haven't read any of these yet, as I sort of... wasn't sure how to find the 'fandom favorites' like SGA's, you know? It seems like everyone knew the best fics in SGA, but for Sherlock I see fics being referred to by acronym but never seem to actually suss out what they're talking about! Heh.

Speaking of SGA, I have a massive SGA/Sherlock crossover brewing, and I'm seriously so excitedddddddd... /squees.

TYTYTY! \o/

*beams* I totally will! <3

Yeah I wasn't sure either! I found Alone on the Water because everyone kept mentioning it (but, infuriatingly, not LINKING it) on Tumblr after Reichenbach Fall, but beyond that my method has been going on AO3 and sorting by number of hits, assuming that the ones with the most hits will be at least reasonably good. It's been a good strategy so far!

Man, I miss SGA. For fanon:canon quality ratio, I don't think it can be beaten. We made John and Rodney and all the rest our very own, and it was quite incredible. I'm delighted to hear you have a SGA/Sherlock plan! Put me down on the very very excited about that list! :D

Can I just take a moment to be completely sappy and say that I have missed exchanges like this so much! I've drifted away from LJ a bit and while I've kept in touch with fangirls on twitter and such, it's just not the same, because it's pseudo public and I can't be like HEY GUYS HAVE YOU READ THIS EXCELLENT GAY PORN YET?! *cough* I'm so glad to be doing that again! Yay for Sherlock dragging me back in!

I totally hear you on missing SGA--there was something really special about that fandom, and while I definitely feel elements of it in Sherlock, nothing will ever be the same, heh. It IS nice to see so many familiar names, though, it feels like I'm not starting over.

Also, re: your last paragraph, YES. EXACTLY. I really didn't realize how much I MISSED that part of fandom. I've been desperately trying not to talk my husband's ear off about Sherlock (not the least of which because I don't want him not to watch it at least once, just because I love it so, lol), and getting to share that squee is totally addictive and delightful :D I'm glad I could facilitate that! \o/

Now, off to read the fic you called your 'long slow falling in love' favorite, cause YES that's what I need right now :D

SO I JUST FINISHED THE HIS DARK MATERIALS ONE. It was so INTERESTING. What a unique direction to take the daemon idea! And yet PERFECT for these two. I just wish there was... more of it! I was left really intrigued but not entirely satisfied. John's Kali was PERFECT (and what a pretty name!) and ahhh that is still the best fictional concept EVER, imo.

*continues to devour ALL THE SHERLOCK FIC AUGH*
