Short answer: Fuck them and the horse they rode in on.
It's only an AU if it explicably contradicts canon. If you write a season five fic where Rodney never gets together with Keller, it's an AU. If you write a post-season five where he breaks up with her, it's not.
He does! I used to watch the reruns on CBS til they stopped showing it, now I have the Season 1 DVDs and I watch it on TV Land when it's on at reasonable hours instead of 5:30 in the morning (aka 8-10 on Sundays xD)
The reruns were on right before the National Anthem, around 3 AM, but sometimes they'd be delayed and the tape wouldn't catch the ending. That always put a crimp in my day.
I really should invest in the DVDs. That show is considered a classic for a reason.
I almost got season 2, but it was in a broke case so I exchanged it for something else (Numb3rs season 1, actually...) but I intend to eventually get all the seasons. It's just so worth it. MASH and Hogan's Heroes are top on my list for DVDs to get.
I agree. But in their mind, everyone lives in a state of hellish limbo where everything is exactly the same because it's not explicitly stated in canon.
I mean, if Jack/Sam being married is AU because it's not shown, what the fuck?! What if I write a fic 50 years in the future and someone who would have been 117 years old died? Is that AU?

I rarely use the word but this is asinine.
