Lady A Day 018: Ursula the Sea Witch

Apr 06, 2010 13:44

So I had kinda sorta prepped another Lady for the post today, but I'm just in a mood and thinking that it's time to shake up the actresses and musicians and just deliver on a straight-up badass: Ursula the mothereffing Sea Witch, bitches.  Everybody has very specific defining experiences in childhood.  If, like me, you're a television and film nut ( Read more... )

EPIC WIN!!! Ursula has always been my favorite Disney character!!!

You know her character was based on a popular drag queen at the time?

I think I heard that in a special about the movie, aired in my "Sirenology" (Little Mermaid) Psych class in college.

So fabulous.

"Life's full of tough choices...idn't it?"

But this is a darn good one.

I wore out the VHS as well when I was younger, and now I own the special edition DVDs. This is hands down my favorite Disney movie, partly attributed to such a badass villain. Incredibly insightful that you dug her when you were four. She's got grit.

Although, I was quite an Ariel fan.

...and after all dear, what is idle prattle for?

I had no idea Ursula would be such a crowd pleaser. I'll have to incorporate more cephalopods into Lady-A-Day.

"Grit" - excellent description. Also, "malice."

I think she must've had it rough growing up. And then being ostracized....

I'm not sure if she was ostracized, or just a loner? She definitley wasn't getting much emotional support from Flotsom and Jetsom...cretins.

Must also add...Went to see this on b'way and Sherie Rene Scott fucking stole the show as Ursula. Stole it hard.

I LOVED SRS in Aida. I can imagine how doubly dead she killed it as Ursula.

I have to admit, I was a little worried that I was about to read about your wierd cartoon crush on the scary fish woman, so phew... I'm still a little bit worried that you consider her a role model, but hey - you turned out alright in the end. ;P

No fish fetishes here. Ha!

Love that folks are whipping out the Disney icons for this one.

Other favorite complex Disney "women" include Megara (Hercules)and Peg the pound dog who sings "He's a Tramp" in Lady and the Tramp. Did you know that she was voiced by Peggy Lee? PL also voiced the Siamese cats (Si & Am) and Darling. Krazy stuff!

This is fantastic!!!

There are so many Disney movies I love, and this one's right up there. I do have to say though, at 4 I was usually too terrified of the villains to admire them for anything:)

I think my love for her grew as I got older because there was less of a scare factor. But I always thought that Vanessa was WAY hotter than Ariel.

Vanessa was WAY hotter than Ariel.

STOP IT! You're just saying crap to make me want to watch this movie with you now! I have to do stuff this afternoon other than just spew about the amazingness of "The Little Mermaid".

Vanessa.

When she's tossing about those dagger-like hair clips? Way to turn me on, Disney.
