HELLBENT!!!!

I went and saw the BEST gay film EVER last night. It was so refreshing to see a gay film that doesn't deal with coming out, family troubles, a birthday party where a secret is revealed, closet cases bashing out teenagers, gays trying to sleep with women to "fix" themselves, gays trying to get married and adopt children, HIV/AIDS, someone calling someone else "Mary" and all the other "gay" issues. Don't get me wrong, these are all important themes for queer cinema, and important in our daily lives, but there comes a time when you just want to have some fun and see a GAY SLASHER HORROR FILM!!!

HELLBENT was exactly that. It was part of the Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival's "Queer Fear" series. It was just so wonderful to see a film where all the characters are gay, and they don't have any problems with it. Their only problem is someone is trying to chop their heads off when all they want to do is have a fun time on Halloween and maybe hook-up! What could be better than that?

The Harvard Exit was sold out, so it was one of those surreal horror film experiences where tons of people jump and scream at the same time in a crowded theatre. I know I am a bit of a pansy-ass wuss, but DAMN, this movie scared me! I jumped and screamed plenty of times, and laughed a lot too. I just adore a movie that can make me react (out loud for that matter). So many "good" movies just don't do that for me....

Anyway, hopefully this will be one of the SLGFF movies that will make it to a limited theatre release in the near future, or at least to DVD, so you can all see it too! It was extremely well-done, and I have to confess, I thought the killing scenes were TOO realistic at times... When I left the theatre, my heart was still racing and I had that acidy, gut-wrenching feeling in my stomach all the way home. It was SUPERB!

All in all, 2 gay thumbs up!
