The story of the Ant and the Grasshopper

Old Version

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he ( Read more... )

Hey, it was new to me.

Besides, with all this talk about fixing the Social Security system and the only answer from the left is "raise the contribution limit on wealthier taxpayers", it's still a current topic.

Actually the response I've seen from "the left" is "there's nothing wrong with Social Security and it doesn't need to be fixed."

Then again, no one seems to be making much sense over the whole issue anyway.

I'm not sure where you're hearing "all this talk about fixing the Social Security system."

There is "all this talk" and it's definitely about "the Social Security system" but it's not about "fixing" anything, nor is it about ownership or taking responsibility.

Read the FactCheck article analyzing the administrations claims.

If we apply the same standards being used to declare Social Security "bankrupt" by 2042, then the US government is here, now, this very minute "bankrupt" and has last been solvent during the Clinton administration when the dotcom boom flooded government coffers with a surplus.

But read the article. It has some interesting facts on how the current plan has nothing to do with ownership, and is merely replacing the Social Security Trust Fund with individual accounts that will still be controlled by the government.

You should read Pat Buchanan on the Social Security discussion. He makes the best case that the current administration is a Hamiltonian big-government group in Jeffersonian clothes.

Yeah, I told this joke to my husband, and he cracked up. It may be "old" by a few months, etc., but it's still funny and still VERY TRUE.

What's so wrong with being well-to-do in this society?

I first heard this story when Reagan was President. Back when I was republican and had faith/respect in our government. The story rang true back then. Now that the Gestapo .. er .. HomeSec Goons are in charge, its just another hobgoblin. (ref. HL Mencken)
