I'm just about to leave the hotel in Des Moines and start travelling south to the town of Exline, Iowa.
The Exline Country Store is supposed to have a 4th of July celebration all day today, and fireworks tonight, according to their website and facebook page... But the weather forecast does not look good. Rain is 80% likely.
The good news is that I woke up this morning and the ground was still dry here in Des Moines. The overnight systems all passed west of here, so at least I don't have to worry about *starting* my trip in the rain. I don't think I will be able to avoid it completely, though.
I still don't have a place to stay tonight... and setting up my tent could be a real pain if it's raining. I might get lucky and find someone in Exline, Iowa who will let me use their couch for the night.
Tomorrow night, I have a hotel reservation in Oklahoma City. Then it's Alburquerque to visit a friend, and then back to Cedar City, Utah the night of the 7th. I want to spend the day of the 8th around Utah, then drive back home on my Birthday, July 9th.
Well... I'm off to finish my trip!
