Ankle Progress

Here's a few pics to document the progress of my broken ankle saga...

The morning I was scheduled for Surgery (Tuesday 5/25), I took off the soft-cast so I could shower, and shot this picture before putting the soft-cast back on:

Here's my foot again in the Pre-op room, with the Soft-cast on.

Shortly after I took this picture, a nurse came in and took off the soft cast and washed my foot thorughly with hibiclens.

Post surgery: After waking up, I found that my foot was in a large walking boot. I kept this boot on that night, even as I slept, to make sure that everything was well protected:

Wednesday, with the help of my friend, Ginger, I picked up a small 10x10 pop-up canopy from HomeDepot and went up to Potrero County Park to set up my merchant space. I made SURE that I didn't overdo it, and spent several hours doing what would have taken me 45-50 minutes had I not been injured. I came home that night and slept really well...

Ever try to hammer a spike into the ground while balancing on one foot? Or set up a tent while crawling around on your knees? It was very tiring.

The plan is that I will return on Friday and Saturday to sell merchandise, but whether or not I stay over at Potrero Friday night will depend on how my foot feels.

Today, Thursday, I'm staying in and relaxing.

This morning I took off the surgery bandages as the doctor instructed and took a shower, then rebandaged the foot. This was the first chance I got to see the stitches.

The picture on the left still has some of the cotton batting stuck to my foot from whatever that yellow stuff is that they cleaned my foot with. The one on the right is after the shower when I rebandaged over the stiches.

And finally, here it is wrapped again. I'll put the walking boot on it later tonight, as I plan on going out to dinner with the GoldWing group.

My doctor says that if I treat my ankle gently so that the screws don't pull, and that the stitches don't get infected, and I do gentle range of motion exercises frequently when the boot is off, I might be able to ride BabyDragon again in as little as 4 weeks... that's just before I was planning on riding out to WingDing32 in DesMoines, so you KNOW my fingers are crossed for that.
