It gives you a nice, burghermeister kind of look - now if you had one of those elaborate, Black Forest wooden pipes as a prop, and a Tyrolian hat...
It is _amazing_ how just a short-but-dense buffer of air pockets can insulate, isn't it?
Your beard has always looked pretty good - but in conrast to all the beards that I saw at LOSCON, mostly white, many a foot or a foot and a half long, which had NEVER been trimmed or groomed, on faces which looked like they were from Matthew Brady Civil War photos, and invariably on men who were rail-thin and looked like they had just climbed off their mountains like so many yogis, either possessing the Meaning of Life and Eternal Happiness...or were just plain crazy.
...And after listening to some of their questions and comments to panelists, I'd side with "Crazy".
I always keep my neck trimmed. I shave every morning right up to the jawline. It shapes my face quite well that way.
I've had my beard off twice since high-school... both times because I was working for companies that didn't allow facial hair for health reasons (an inventory service that included supermarkets among their clients, and a Pizza place where I helped in the kitchen when not delivering pizzas) and both times, I grew it RIGHT back when I wasn't working there anymore. I really don't like the shape of my face without the beard.

I am looking forward to when it's more grey than red... Then I will *really* look like St. Nick when I let it go long.
