Pavillion Building update

It rained all day saturday, so I didn't get a chance to cut the tent poles and make the fineals for them... so Saturday was spent sewing.

...and sewing, and sewing, and sewing.

and then some more sewing.

I put together the side-walls, attached little tabs every foot or so so I could hang it from the frame. 35 feet by 6-feet tall, double-walled for privacy. That's a whole lot of fabric and a whole lot of sewing.

I broke 7 needles in the process... I only have a cheap light-duty sewing machine.

Sunday, the weather cleared a bit, so I built the frame, turned the fineals on my lathe, and set up the roof section.

You might notice that the center pole doesn't show up in that picture... That's because I engineered a suspended center-pole system. It's hanging from the 4 corners by ropes,so I can still use a Queen air mattress:

The fineals were still getting a coat of finish on them, so they weren't on the tent when I took these pictures. Here's a pic I shot of them this evening:

Right after I set up the mock-up of the roof section, I went inside and finished the wall section... but when I was about to take it outside and hang it up, it started raining.

And it hasn't stopped yet.

The good news is that even with all the rain and wind, the tent is still standing. That gives me some hope that it will last the week at Estrella.

I just hope it dries enough tomorrow so that I can test the walls wednesday morning before packing it all up to drive to Arizona.
