But the alternative is worse...

Every time I answer the phone and it's my dad, my heart falls into the pit of my stomach and just churns there. Because I'm terrified he's going to tell me Mom is in the hospital, yet again. Or... that he's going to tell me that she died ( Read more... )

Jodi Picoult is capable of being AWESOME for most of her books, but she SUCKS at the endings. It's positively maddening. STOP TRYING TO BE M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN.

No kidding. It's like I want to smack her. Or, have her find someone who's really good at endings and team the two of them up.

She goes from thought provoking, right into stuff that's about as deep as a Halmark greeting card and someone needs to teach her how to fix the damned problem.

For me, the worst offenders were Mercy (utterly unsympathetic douche of a main male character) and The Tenth Circle, which showed an abominable lack of understanding of the comics industry, despite that fact that Picoult did a run on Wonder Woman.

I thought Plain Truth had a much more reasonable ending, even with the twist, but that could be because it was my first novel of hers and it hadn't gotten irritating yet.

Well, damn. Now I'm DEFINITELY not going to see the movie. I had heard bits and pieces about it, but that ending is just horrible! It makes me sort of hate Kate and I've never even read the book. Ugh.

Yeah, I can't stand Kate. Yes, we're all supposed to feel sorry for her, and I do know that prolonged illness doesn't make people saints like they show on TV, but Kate seems to know she really runs the family and seems to have no problem manipulating people when it suits her, then playing the, "I'm dying, pity me!" card when she's had enough.

It's such a shame too, because the whole plot is excellent, the writing is first rate, until she ruins it.

She needs to find someone who can do a decent ending, write 3/4 of the book, and then hand it over to that person.
