Awww

I went out walking today after all. I did 5.75 miles, so while it wasn't seven, it was over five. My arm is not happy, but hey, that's life.

While walking, I saw what I swear was the world's happiest kitten ever. Well, he wasn't really a kitten, or a cat, he was at that long legged in between stage. It was outside this free range farm I pass when walking, that has chickens and roosters all about. It's a funky place. Well, this "teenage" cat was primarily white, with black, including a big black ring around one eye that made him look like someone had belted him. His fur was neither short nor long, but medium. You could tell this cat was the product of many years of healthy "Breed with whatever may come along" stock. His eyes were bright, his coat was spotless.

And he was charging after roosters. Now, these roosters are about as big as him, and clearly they've been dealing with cats all their lives, because they just don't budge. They just fix anything that approaches them with a beady eye and look like, "No, you won't touch me, because you know if you do, every chicken and rooster around is going to tear you into peices."

Well, this kitten/cat knew the rules obviously, but this didn't stop him from having a wonderful time. He'd spot a rooster, lower himself, stare at his "prey," doing the backass shaking thing, then finally, run like hell to that rooster, leap over the rooster, run like hell away from the rooster, then snap around and do the same thing again.

One time as I'm watching, this adolescent creature did a flip in the air as he was leaping over the rooster. He landed on all fours on the ground with such force, that his paws started to slide out from under him like he was doing kitty splits. This didn't phase him at all, he just drew himself together and went right back to the game.

You could tell the rooster was thinking Oh joy, when will this thing tire? But even though I sat along the gaurd rail across the street and watched his cat/kitten for a good twenty minutes, he didn't seem to tire. And yes, I swear I could hear him giggling. There didn't seem to be anything mean at all about the game, I never got the impression that kitty wished for a chicken dinner on the fly, I just think he was having a blast leaping over the rooster. The cat equivilent to scateboard tricks, I'll bet.

Awesome cat. Made me wish I had a video camera I could take with me, 'cause that was worth seeing. I probably don't do the scene justice with my words.

amusing stuff, awww, cats
