Simple Sweep: (wrist controls)
1. Begin with each wrist controlled, same side, with a secure grip of the cuff.

2. Unlock your guard, pinching your knees together to retain some control.

3. Hip escape to one side, dropping the lower leg (the one closer to the floor) completely to the floor next to his leg to prepare for the trip.

4. Bring the other leg across his chest, your shin across his ribs and your knee across to his chin/shoulder.  At the same time, yank your arms in (far arm to the opp shoulder, close arm ends up RESTING ON ELBOW) to break his base.

5. Use the sternum shin to topple him over.  At the top of his arc, extend/push to the ceiling to make the sweep more emphatic.  Keep hold of his sleeves!

6. Secure side control, tucking that arm where you want it.

Reverse Simple Sweep: (when his base is extra-amazing OR he tries to smash your legs into the ground)
1. Begin from the simple sweep position, fully on your side with one knee in his sternum and the other tripping on the ground, wth each of his wrists controlled with the same side hand.

2.   Pass control of his wrist so that you now have his opposite wrist controlled with your elbow-on-the-mat hand.

3. Sitting up as best you can, reach around his back with your free hand and secure a hold in his armpit.

4. Rock him forward and back to break his base, then use the armpit control to pull him towards your head while kicking with your sternum shin to send him onto his back.  Don't lose the sleeve!

5. Follow him up and secure side control, using the sleeve control to position his hand where you want it.

Gi-assisted Clock Choke: (from tight side control)
1. Freeing your lapel closer to his knees, pass the whole tail under his arms (if defending) to your hand under his neck.  This time, thumb will be pointing away from the butt of the tail.

2. ***crucial bit: Immediately curl that arm back towards your body, drawing the tail into his neck and tightening it.

3.  Put your free hand on his near hip to keep him from rolling.

4. Sprawl and begin to walk your feet around his head.  When you can, put your far ear on his hip where your hand was.  He'll tap. :)
