THe First Listed Project: Burgundy Bustle Skirt

Hello Darlings~!
I have been sewing for a long time. I'm not that old at all, but I have a great many memories of sitting in front of a machine or with a needle and thread. Since I'm nearing adulthood (Honestly, who am I fooling... I'v been told I was an adult since 11. The quote-end quote: benefits of being an "old soul") I've decided that I should fufill my childhood dream of dressing in lolita. I'm a "penny-less" little lady, so I've decided to craft this "Lolita" wardrobe myself.

It should also be noted that I like to combine styles. So, I may stumble into a category of Lolita and mis-name it, or completely step out of "Lolita"- if you know what I mean. I will need help with these corrections if you don't mind... I'm not very good at memorising the sub-genres. Also, is Mori Lolita a thing? I love Mori Girl style, and incorparate that with almost everything (The "real" country lolita where I come from. Awwwwww Yeeeesss- petticoats in the woods...)  Anyway, I've rambled on a bit much. It's time to get to the first project.

(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧~ A Chary Attempt At A Cut ~ *:・゚✧

Project Title: Burgundy Bustles
Short Project Description: A bell shaped skirt with a wrap-around buslte, knife pleats, and ruffles. Considering making detachable bows
Project Deadline: Before Winter (Because winter is coming... (  ¤﹏¤)
Patterns: Σ(゜ロ゜;) There are patterns for these types of things?! Unfortunately I had to draft one myself.
Materials Needed: Burgundy twill fabric, elastic
Challenges or Obstacles: I overthink EVERYTHING. I think that is always my biggest obstacle. I had to take some time to think of how I was going to get into the skirt (laugh at this with me, love. Because with everything I make getting in and out is the thing I worry about the most! Haha!) My though process was: Should I use elastic? Do a half Elastic waistband? I prefer zippers... But What about the bustle? I don't like visible zippers... How can I have a skirt with a bustle and a zipper?! The zipper would need to be where the bustle ends meet... At the crotch? OH NO. *The drama continued from there*

The Sketch:

I wan't sure how I should do the back. Initially it was going to have a zipper and possibly- depending on how it fit- a contoured waistband. I craft every item in my closet to fit on my natural waist, because I have long legs (but, get this- I'm short~!). Naturally, my waist is tiny compared to my hips. SO, as I mentioned before, getting in and out of things can be a real problem for me.

The skirt is completed, but I must go back and make some changes. Number one being my nemisis- the waistband. I have an odd relationship with the waistband and its ally; elastic. It's not my first go round with them, but I seem to be having trouble with it this time around. It isn't sitting properly on the waits, and I think it needs to be resewn. That will have to wait until I gather enough Hp and willpower points, as I just do not want to do it right now.

I think my favorite part of the skirt is the inside. I just love how clean it all looks. This was the first time I've used the Ultralock to finish a lolita project. I don't usually because I like to underline and go with a couture finish, but for this skirt I wanted to be able to show my future clients what certain finishes are like. For some odd reason, people feel that serger seams are more professional... I suppose. (  >

I'm sorry I can't give you any photo's of it being worn. I don't have a working tripod at the moment; nor do I have a dressform. I hope these photo's will do for now. My next skirt will be a fitted pencil and I'll register this in a few days. Thank you all for your time!

Until Next TIme!
