Friday evening I received a call from one of my sisters, Veronica, asking if I wanted to go antique shopping with her and her fiancée, Dom, the next day. Thinking this would be a middle of the day thing I said sure. Plans were made to pick me up from outside the dorms at 10:30 AM and that was all.
Saturday morning at 10:30 AM I am in Veronica’s car with her and Dom on our way to Walworth, Wisconsin. Walworth is about an hour’s drive south east from Milwaukee, and where Dom grew up.
We stopped for lunch at a local Burger King, then proceeded to start shopping. We started at an antique shop right on the town square. It had originally been a three-story department store, but has now been converted to three levels plus a basement of antiques. That was cool. Unfortunately for Dom the majourity of the other antique shops had either disappeared or were closed, and he hadn’t remembered that. By the time we had exhausted the town’s supply of antique shops it was three in the afternoon.
I hadn’t been told this, but after the antique shopping Dom and Veronica planned to go to his parents house for dinner. This I found out about once we were at his parents house. I got to meet Dom’s mother, father, grandmother, little brother, cat, puppy, and one of his aunts. I was fairly amused at meeting Dom’s family due to the fact that I had never been to George’s house or met his family outside of them coming to school to pick him up. The most social of occasion I have spent with his family is George’s 19th birthday, when his mother, older sister, and little brother came up to Milwaukee with a cake for him.
At Dom’s parent’s house I got to look at an old yearbook (junior year) of his, and scrapbooks from sports and Eagle Scouts. Dinner was good, same with dessert. I experienced a new Easter tradition of making Easter Egg Nests (I need to get that reciepe), and a Christmas tradition of putting Santa Clause hats on dead animals. It was interesting, and I have to admit, fun at time.
The three of us got into Milwaukee at 9:30 PM, just in time to go grocery shopping at Metro Mart before it closed, and just in time to pick up another fish to pet sit over break.
Today I’m going to George’s grandmother’s house for Easter. We shall see how that goes.
