Ghibli Museum and other things...

this week has been very hectic as far as trying to figure out what form my presentation/project will take. Blythe merchandise is incredibly expensive, and I have been waiting almost 'til the last minute to collect what I need in order to gauge how much money I will have left for myself. The people at Blythe stores are really helpful and interesting. The girls wear extremely cute clothes, almost too cute and are kind of finatics. One girl I had a conversation with has four 12" (the largest) blythe dolls (they are 10,000 yen each) and 24 "petite" Blythes, which run about 1,800-1,400 each. Not to mention the fact that she probably has tons of clothes for her dolls. A t-shirt can run for the price of a regular tshirt!! I was considering getting a petite blythe instead, but I am going to splurge and get a real one.....but not an authentic one. Authentic ones from the original Kenner 1972 release can pretty much only be found on ebay and run for up into the $10,000s. RETARDED.

Anyway, I am going to make my blythe a mini version of me, because Blythe collectors seem to project their personalities into their dolls in a way that almost makes me think that they seek an ideal version of themselves in a doll rather than real-life.

Visiting the Studio Ghibli Museum was tons of fun. I grew up loving Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service, and still enjoy Miyazaki's films to this day. I think the messages in his movies are a lot deeper and touching than, say, Disney films. One thing that bothered me, however, was that they focused a little too much on making everything look "western." I mean, do Miyazaki and his team really work in a cottage on some river down in souther france eating marmalade and using syrups to flavor thier french sodas? Does he have a huge collection of ONLY western books? That kind of made me gag, so I ignored it and focused on all the SWEET ASS sketches they had up on the wall. One thing I found rediculous was the amount of people in the gift shop. It figures that, in Japan, the busiest room in a museum would be the EFFIN GIFT SHOP. THAT was a nightmare, but at least I got my giant soot sprite dollllllllll.

Anyway, I need to find a scanner...I have some amazing pictures from this blythe book.

Ta-Ta,

Claire
