first weekend back in the Hammer

May 11, 2009 02:13

I'm lying in bed right now unable to sleep so I figured I'd update. (Insomnia due to an uncontrollable - and non-metaphorical - itch, and a cough).

I've got this giant rash on my left forearm and also on all of my toes. I got them in Jamaica. I think I might have a bit of a sun allergy? All my life I've always been prone to heat rash but man... last week really did me in. My feet and legs were so swollen and itchy, and my forearms and hands got it really bad too. Those are the only spots that tend to be affected though. It's so weird. I'll have to go get some testing done someday, because it's so unbearable! Most of the rashy spots have gone away but my left forearm and my toes are just persisting so bad. And I am such a scratcher! It's sick! I slapped a bunch of vinegar on there today. Hurts but it works so well.

When Dave and I were walking around in Jackson Square the other day, there was this GREAT sneaker store we found. I can't remember what it was called now but they had so many incredible sneaks! I'm definitely going to have to snatch up a new pair of hot kicks soon. I'd love a pair of high-top suede Vans in black and yellow or maybe some crazy neon ones.

Weekend was pretty fun. Friday night Biff, Nat, Rowan and Sherlane (who I just met that night) all came over and then we went to Casbah to see Fuck the Facts. The rest of the bands were so-so... some really shitty metal band who aren't even worth mentioning, then this Maiden rip-off band who covered The Trooper (of course. But it was still rippin' hot!), and then Harv's new band Eagle Fight played. They actually weren't half bad. Fuck the Facts ruled. Their bass player blew me away - he's so amazing and technically skilled! Sheesh.
I saw Joe at the show, which was cool. I'm sure I'll see him a lot more now. Pye just had another kid so FOL isn't going to be playing many shows for awhile, which is kind of a bummer. I got really drunk and met some new people including this rad cutie named Caroline who is super nice and fun.

Saturday night Biff came over again and the three of us hung out listening to QOTSA and drinking, then ventured out to Doors for some 80s throwback thrash/death metal. A bunch of peeps were there including almost everyone from Friday and also Miss Valerie and this Kirby dude who I've known for years and I barely remember how (I think he was a friend of this guy Wes I dated back in highschool, and the dudes in Priestess are our mutual friends so whenever they're around for a show I end up partying with this dude). I like the Doors patio a lot. It's big and everyone was rad. Hamilton definitely has a fantastic vibe these days, at least amongst the peeps I hang out with, which is a nice change from the shitty vibes I usually had in London.

We're still not done unpacking, but it's coming along nicely I suppose. I'm a little bummed because I keep finding all these little things that are pissing me off with this apartment, such as the crappy paintjob on the kitchen cupboards, or the fact that all of the outlet covers are loose, or that the phone jacks don't even have covers, or that there are no poles in any of the closets, just these stupid metal things that my hangers don't even fit properly into... ACK!!! Frustration. I mean, the place in London we just moved from was 700 a month and it was in much better shape than this 860 a month place... Plus London is a fancier city to live in than Hamilton, so I'm really shocked that for what we're paying here (and for how nice this building supposedly is) there are so many shitty little nuisances in this unit. I hate to complain but it's something new every day it seems. They're totally small things but they're kind of starting to add up to me feeling a little bit ripped off...

Anyway. Today was mother's day. Dave made me breakfast in bed (french toast with syrup and berries!) even though I'm not a mom... unless you count my two cat-children.
I called my mom and wished her a happy mom's day and she gave me some hot tips on some hospital jobs she heard about. I spent the rest of my day unpacking half of my clothing, doing dishes, napping on the couch and watching three or so hours worth of Arrested Development on dvd. God I'm productive. Lazy Sunday, bros and hos.

friends, ailments, partying, shows, bands, apartment stuff, hamilton
