A new batch of musical selections incoming...this time all cover tunes. Some good, some bad...some ugly. But all fun to listen to if covers are your thing. All are definitely worth at least one listen.
[The Beatles] The Templeton Twins - Yesterday
A charming 1930's radio orchestra style cover. This really is a great twist on a Beatles song.
[Soundgarden] Handsome Hank and His Lonesome Boys - Black Hole Sun
This time its an old time country style cover of a Soundgarden classic.
[Alanis Morissette] Jaymz Bee and the Royal Jelly Orchestra - You Oughta Know
A loungy cover of that angst filled song against a hack comedian. It's not Richard Cheese...but still interesting.
[The Killers] Paul Anka - Mr. Brightside
Speaking of cheese...Mr. Anka lends his croony voice to this big band cover.
[Van Halen] Giuliano Palma & The Bluebeaters - Jump
Another big band style cover, this one fairly well done though.
[Red Hot Chili Peppers] Big Mess Orchestra - Give It Away
A dark and evil perversion of a big band, this twisted take on the Chili Peppers is a favorite of mine.
[David Bowie] The Last Town Chorus - Modern Love
Slowing things down...this mellow steel guitar and piano version really is haunting to listen to.
[Joy Division] Susanna and the Magical Orchestra - Love Will Tear Us Apart
Another slow and somber cover song...Norwegian singer Susana Wallomrod's soft voice over smooth synths is really beautiful.
[Björk] Michael Anderson - Possibly Maybe
It doesn't get much slower than a children's lullaby rendition of a great Björk tune. From the Rockabye Baby! series of lullabye cover cds.
[U2] Ol Yeller - In God's Country
A slow alt-country take on a great U2 song. This cover does early U2 justice.
[Aphex Twin] Alarm Will Sound - Fingerbib
A quirky orchestral cover of an equally quirky experimental electronical piece from Richard James.
[Britney Spears] Global Kryner - Toxic
You can't really get much quirkier than Britney these days...and the accordian and oompah band sound of this cover accurately reflects her bizarre behavior these days.
[Kraftwerk] The Tremolo Beer Gut - The Model
A slow rockabilly take on the kraut synth gods!
[The English Beat] Harvey Danger - Save It For Later
They've covered a lot of bands, from The Cars to Dire Straits, but this is my favorite.
[LL Cool J] Sexton Blake - I Need Love
A nice acoustical version of this rap song.
[Michael Jackson] 1L - Wanna Be Startin Something
A disjointed, noise-filled, industrial take on a great song from back when Whacko Jacko was fun to listen to.
[Madonna] Detholz - Like A Virgin
If you thought that last one was disjointed...Detholz specializes in fucking with your head with their covers.
[Pink Floyd] Snatch - Another Brick in the Wall
This cover fucks with you, just for the simple fact that its a funk/disco version of this Pink Floyd hit.
[Led Zeppelin] The Beatnix - Stairway to Heaven
Another classic rock cover...except done in the style Beatles early Britpop sound. Actually the two mesh very well.
[The Beatles] Lampshade - Good Day Sunshine
Since we are on a Beatles sound...might as well end it as we started this post off, with another quirky Beatles cover. This time from the Swedish indie/pop group, Lampshade.
