I was just reading the econy, and thinking back to a debate i had with Jackob one thursday eve.
Venezuela sucks, well it doesn't but Chavez does.
He is an autocrat he doesn't majorly go in for the beating the populous thing cos he buys them.
But he is still an autocrat. He also opposes america, not necasserrily a bad thing when you are opposing them constructively, which he isn't he is just being a populous asshole.
Speaking of america.
I like america, it ain't a bad place, it does have it fair share of problems and yes it has a tendency to be balshy.
But the people are not stupid, some of them have utterly ridiculous views which are backed up by certain parts of the media, which like politics will always have something there to suit you both have to hunt for people so both will pander to you, and as the people doing this are not stupid. They will not put forth a ridiculous viewpoint in a ridiculous way....okay some do, but some people like that, again with going what some poeple like.
China is not a counterweight, we do not need a counter weight, superpowers are getting smaller, a larger reach but smaller in actual size. Tis a democratisation, this is hard to explain, It is not about RULING places and people, it is about having access to them. It is no longer about making them part of your people it is about getting them access to trade, in both directions.
Anyway the point i was trying to make is, we no longer need superpower, and indeed at some point they will stop happening.
Superpowers have one advantage. Police, they give the world a police force, which it needs. However, wouldn't it be better if the smaller guys got together and policed the world?
For example, NATO which for the sake of this arguement you reduce america to about the same size as britian or france. Now NATOs job was to come to each others aid should someone attack any of the members (Same with the Warsaw pact...but that kinda fell apart/strengthed).
Now these members would of course have to not attack each other, which the countries who generally do this sort of thing do really do anyway, but they do still have armed forces, meaning they have the ability to project strength.
Now, the main problem is of course deciding upon what is and is not a reason to project strength. this would seem to call for some sort of 'External Constitution' or foreign policy, but that applies to many things.
You know what, i think britian should get rid of Trident, not altogether, that would too radical not to mention too short sighted. But it would show willing towards nuclear disarmament. Taking them all out of action would be stupid as something may well happen that causes us to need them at least as a deterrent, unfortunately we are not part of the Nordic Non Nuclear Pact which would mean we would probably not be even be thought of as a threat and be attacked, but we are possibly slightly too big and too out there not to be thought of as a threat. So we should cut back to show that we would rather the world didn't have any at all, but keep some to show that we are capable of defending ourselves.
Also it would suck if the EU ever got its act together and did come up with a single combined military force and we where not able to contribute at all levels.
You know, i can't wait for the EU to become a single federal state, with each state very autonomous, but still have that single voice. Tis the 'gang of small guys' thing again.
We would prolly be considered a super power, but that would be the wrong way to think about it.
Anyway i am bored of this now, and my ability to waffle on is waning, so i am off to play shogun and kick the living shit out of those black guys...i forget there name, Taneda or something like that.
Sorry all the ideas are only half formed, but i was reading the econy whilst doing it and so my mind kept wondering about things, not within the articles Per Se, but considerations they raised within me mind.
oh and i found out what the location thing does, and man is that cool.
Oh and i got Winamp today, and man is that thing fucking cool.
