'twas a good day...

So, today ended up being a pretty fantastic Wednesday.  The wolf and I took off from home bright and early this morning, made good time, and hit the slopes at Copper Mountain this morning at around 11.  This was Vinny's first time on skis.  Ever psyched up and ready to go, he made an amazing effort for his first day out.  Not content to stay on the bunny hill, which has basically no slope whatsoever, he wanted to challenge himself and ski down main vein, a blue, the only main run that was open.  I have to say, I don't think i could have made it down on my first day, but despite falling 42 times (he counted, seriously)  he managed to link a bunch of turns and get to the point where he was getting at least the concept of parallel turns.  It was impressive.  Both that he made such progress in the face of daunting downhill adversity, and also that he kept getting back up after the 30th impact on ice:P

Bruised but not defeated, we closed the day out and retreated to our digs in Brek.  Vinny is a priceline junkie, i swear, and manages to work the most ridiculous deals on lodging.  Other than an moderately exciting drive up the side of an icy mountain, the place is great, with a nice fireplace, and it was on the cheap:) Definitely a good place to crash in Brek:)

For anyone out here this winter to nab some powder, we found a very good dinner place in Brek proper.  Mi Casa, right off of Park and Main, exceeded every expectation I might have had.  Wouldn't you know, we finally find a great mexican place in Colorado, and it's all the way out in Brek:P  The experience stood out so well I have to describe it.  We were ordering drinks, and for some reason, spiced/mexican coffee sounded really good to me.  I hadn't looked at the menu, and the liklihood of them having it was of course slim.  I asked the waiter if they had it, and he said no, just regular coffee.  So I eagerly ordered that, though was visibly disappointed about coming in out of the cold and not having spiced coffee.  He put the mug down in front of me and...  what's this?  It smells of rich coffee and...  distinctly, of cinnamon!  He didn't announce it, even casually passed off compliments of how good the coffee was, but was definitely augmenting it with cinnamon.  I was beside myself.  The evening just got better from there, with table side guac, a brilliant trio of salsas, and a quite impressive main course for both of us.  If you're in brek and craving mexican, hit it up.  The entire experience was great.

Another day of bruises and bumps to look forward to tomorrow before getting all the ducks in a row for mff and the holidays, so that's all for now.  :D
