Well, what a lot has happened! I mean, we've got it all... I'm single again, the DWP cocked up (and look like they're about to again), I cocked up, I've signed up for further ed (but hopefully won't fuck it up this time), and I've had more weirdness enter my life (so what else is new?) Right, let's deal with this in order, shall we?
It was about two weeks ago that Mattie and I were sitting together, looking out over the river, enjoying the shade immensely. Even though it was very comfortable, her in my arms, I knew something had been bothering her for a while, and, truth to tell, had rather heckled her on the subject. After all, I worried, and wanted to know. And so it came...
"Jamie?"
"Yeah?"
"Er, I'm not quite sure how to put this..."
"Mattie, love, just tell me, I know there's been something on your mind, and you need to get it out..."
"Would it... would it be alright if we were just friends?"
Well. It wasn't unexpected, and the reasons she gave were very good ones, so I kissed her on the forehead, smiled, and told her what I felt.
"Love, I really do love you, and this has been eating you up for a few weeks. I've been worried about you, and now I know... Well, if it's what you want, then if you're happy, I'm happy. Just friends is fine!"
And you know what? I meant it. The supporting statements will, of course, have to be guessed at by the reader, but still... we are now friends, and, last I checked, we're both happy about things. So all is cool!
What was *not* so cool was when the saturday before last rolled on, and... er... where was my JSA? Er... Oh, sod. Rather predictably, since part of what I owe my landlord (one months rent [my cockup] over five installments) comes from this, I was a bit miffed. And so was he. So I called up the jobseekers on monday. They hadn't sent my forms in. So I called the office. "Oh, we appear to have forgotten to send it off". One week later, I finally get my money.
But lo, another "er..." moment has arisen! Y'see, since I do postal signings, I get two forms in the post every fortnight (the friday before I send them off). The first is the "Are you earning anything?" form, and the second is a form basically asking "Are you *certain* you're not earning anything?". Jobseekers know these forms well, no doubt, and love them just as much as I do. I love them so much (and the money they represent) that, sitting here on sunday evening with no sign of them (and the day I'm meant to send them off being tomorrow), I shed a tear both for the challenges my local JSA are facing (their computer system went down most of the last two weeks), and my voicebox, which I just know will get laryngitic when I give them unholy hell for not having a backup system.
*sigh*
And now, onto the happiest news of all. I've finally decided to register for an OU course in English, followed by a PGCE, so I can teach english. Fear, free people of the earth! Jamie is COMING FOR YA!!!
