I hate Windows XP. My problem with it is always the same thing no matter what I am trying to do. I finally find the configurations that I want and I find a way to tell it to do what I want it to do. Then the thing tells me it's done BUT IT'S NOT. It's not even set up incorrectly so I can fix it, it's just isn't done at all. Why does it lie to me? Why does it do that loading and updating thing when it's not actaully DOING anything? Why doesn't it just say, 'Nope we don't do it that way.' Why does it pretend to do or set up the things I want? Is it just trying to insult me?
I feel this is a problem indicative of current OS's and other technology, it's TOO damn idiot proof. I want the ability to screw up my system. I don't want to read a 327 page book about how to find just the right way to set up and configure things when I know how to go in a do it down and dirty. Why do I have to use the exact tab found in the correct window that is only accessible by running a certain wizard just when the precise set of astrological symbols are aligned in the eighth room of Jupiter?! Wouldn't it be easier for people to actually learn how to use their own systems if they were set up the same each time? I mean it's not as if there's another company putting out these things. They all come from Microsoft so why can't Bill Gates get his shit together and make OS's that use the same set of fundamental principals for doing stuff?
