OK, NORMALLY he LOVES meal times, takes naps with me in the bed while I read or whatever, and is playful, alert, etc.
He did eat his breakfast but I had to kinda talk him into it (putting the meaty bits in my hand for him to taste and go 'oh yeah, I like this'. Trust me, as a vegetarian, there is no greater way to show my love that putting/touching dead animal flesh with my hands to hand feed my Prince Miles).
Ok, then Daddy left for work. Normally that's right after their long morning walk and he 'went' then. I gave him his 'poopie treat' and Ro left. Ok, here's where M starts acting 'off'. After having breakfast, his morning constitutional and a movement of his royal bowels, he says bye to Daddy and maybe waits a couple minutes (because half the time Robert forgets something and comes right back in) and comes back to bed with me or just comes back immediately.
USUALLY, he take Roberts place in bed (pillow and all, it's adorable, and yes, we bathe him often) and I turn so I can pet his neck, scratch his back, rub his belly, or stroke his little ears. This usually knocks us both out, whether the pain is bad or not. Then he wakes me a few hours later with one sharp 'I gotta go pee pee, mummy' bark, and I get my cane, baggie (just in case), and go.
But today, after Ro left, I called M back and he didn't come so I figured he was seeing if Daddy forgot something and while waiting, I fell asleep. I got up twice because of spasms and he wasn't there. So I look for him and he is on the couch that he usually ONLY lays on when we leave and close the master bedroom door because of His Royal Highness' fondness for chewing wires and Daddy has ALOT of wires in here.
And he was napping, he looked....listless...both time I call him "Miles, come on back with mummy!!" his eyes were open but he didn't move. I checked on him, petted him, he was breathing normal, I laid back down.
Then after awhile he barked his normal "I gotta use the loo outside, if you please" bark, so I gather my sunglasses, cane, baggie (In the city you have to 'curb' your animals...some bring a glove and a bag, we use a bag AS the glove and if he "goes", pick up his poo with the inside of the bag, bring the handles around and now it's in the bag and never touched our hands), smoke, cell, and off we go.
Normally he knows mum can't go far or long and he just goes and comes home. But today, he peed alot but kept 'looking' for a place. It hurt my back sooo much, but I could tell he had to "go". So after like 30 minutes, he does and it's so watery I had trouble getting it in the bag without getting it on my hands, plus, I am on my knees and have to get up with my cane, and he's looking like he feels like what just came out his bottom and it was half the size it should be but he was dehydrated so we went home.
I disposed of the waste, cleaned my hands and sanitize (I was on my knees in grass, so who knows what I touched) and see he is back on the couch. I bring him a treat and hear his tummy. So I snuggle him and pet him and gave him some cheese to bind him up and he liked that but wouldn't come back into the Master bedroom with me like he always does. He likes to watch TV and he loves napping against my leg when I read. He is a sweetie. But today, he was just bound to that couch.
So it was his Dinner time (I feed them at 4 to 6 am and 4-6 pm so he will have his last bathroom walk early enough for Robert to sleep through the night).
So I make his fave, I heat up the meat pieces, make a little gravy, put it with the crunchy bits. Normally he is underfoot during this whole process and I sing to him, his tail wags, he loves our little rituals, including for meals.
NOTHING. He wouldn't get up from the couch. I brought it to him. NOTHING.
I say "Miles, do you wanna go walkies again??!!??"
Finally he gets off the couch and goes to the door. I put his lead on, get my outdoors cane, a baggie, etc, and we go. I KNOW he has to go because he's looking and looking and we are out there another half hour and finally he is dehydrated again and we go home.
I text Ro at work and write "I think M is ill!!"
He texts back he will be home in an hour (half an hour ago). Maybe he will know.
I FINALLY have Miles in bed with me but I hear his stomach gurgling, he looks so listless and he just put his head in my lap.. so I gotta go and give him some attention.
Let me know if anybody has a dog that has done this.
After I posted this, spoke with Mama D (My step-mother is a sweetheart and told me to call her Mama D, so I do because the stepmom I had for 20 years, before her, was...well..not so nice to me), and Ro came home. We were checking Miles out and that's when he started licking profusely at his "du-claw" (I don't know if I am getting the spelling correct) most breeds have evolved out of even needing them, but since Miles is a Mix of Beagle and Labrador (and the cutest doggie in da hole widde worle!!), he had duclaws. If you are not familiar, he had his normal nails that we keep trimmed with regular doggie clippers but a du-claw isn't with them. It's like a lone nail half way up his foot. It would be like if we had a thumb coming out of our wrists.
Well, his has curled in so much that it irritates on the verge of pain. I am lucky I got this shot because he won't let us come near it.
See...it's like a hard Talon that has curled in. I got him to eat breakfast by bringing it to him in bed but no dinner...and the diarrhea must be because he drinks the same amount of water but barely eats..the lethargy..listlessness...it all makes sense. So Robert carried him to our bed last night and he got SOME sleep but every couple hours we/I would awake to his licking of this nail. It's driving him crazy and his snout and mouth are red from the licking...like he is trying to mend it. We did EVERYTHING we thought of last night, but it's too curled in to use our dog-clippers, we need special ones that vets on you tube say and show work the best but I just called PetSmart and they didn't have it!!
At 4 or 3 AM, we awoke and turned the lights on to see him biting at his foot, all "Saw" style. Trying to bite the nail off. Forget our plans, forget the groceries, forget the stuff we were going to start for my Birthday, we HAVE to get Miles fixed. It hurts me to see him so miserable!!
