UE Adventures: Chapter I

Aug 30, 2007 22:54

So, this previous Monday and Tuesday (the 27th and 28th respectively) I went out on a few *UE excursions with Ryan (http://ade07.blogspot.com/)

The first, on Monday, was the old Leavens Awards building. Very nice place, albeit a bit trashed. From what I understand, gasp, to such surprise, the company manufactured plaques, emblems, awards, and so on. Pretty sure the building had a few other uses as well, but I can only tell you what I'm slightly aware of. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I took a walk to the South Attleboro station at around 9:30 and headed into Attleboro via train for about 11:02, and met Ryan and his friend in the parking lot. We took a short drive up to the building, found our entrance, and slid ourselves in. Took pictures for a little over an hour and a half, and headed out. As far as I can tell, the building closed in 1998 - it's the last date I can find printed in there, or anywhere on the internet.

Immediately after entering, I snapped this shot of the first room. You can see the heavy amount of debris and grafitti already.

Looking to the left, you see the grafitti becomes more thoughtful and intelligent. You also see Ryan looking at something.

A chart on the table from the first shot - various hazards associated with the materials previously handled here.

Walking by that table and to the left, I found a humorous opportunity involving a sign about about order and cleanliness - this place was a wreck. Also, Ryan climbed to the top of the shelves? Safety, what?

Wandering further and into another room, this vent has seen better days.

A lot of the insulation has been torn out as well.

Various circuitry and documents.

This table was in surprisingly good shape. Compared to the rest of the building, at least...

Tubs/containers of some sort.

More of the machinery, looks like a generator...

Continuing into that hall, a shot from the window.

Hooray, flammable!

Storage? An oven? Something along those lines, I imagine...

The immense decay of this place is obvious.

Continuing onwards...

We checked out the basement. It's pretty decently flooded, and I wasn't about to step in that water.

Into the pipes and machinery... would have loved to drain that basement.

The fire extinguishers were scattered around the building, none were left on the walls.

Cyanide vents were in one of the rooms, along with plenty of bottles to match.

The vents are forward and to the left from this picture.

Trashed.

Type me a story, baby.

I actually thought this was a hole in the ground when I took it - I obviously need glasses more than I thought.

Right to know! Obviously I won't know any time soon.

All sorts of characters have been through here.

Is that a collapsing pipe, or are you just happy to see me?

Some gauges.

The documents from the previous picture. Document-esque? Yeah, that'll do.

A drink? For me? Pass.

I still can't figure out what the fuck this is.

A pipe and the "explorer sign-in table."

They knocked the building's lights out! Horrible jokes abound!

Hallway shot. I think there's something wrong with their table.

Paperwork and debris was everywhere.

Another hall shot.

Grafitti shot.

Same room, looking out the window and into another. This was to the immediate left of the previous grafitti.

Call me sometime, baby. Oh yes.

This came out unreadable, but it was something along the lines of marking all packages to Canada as "GIFTS." I found it funny that a single wall note survived all this time in decent condition.

This room was absolutely trashed. I didn't dare try to sort through any of that.

Someone didn't like computers.

More scattered items.

This shot came after some manner of joke about someone's mother's panties lying around there, so I tried to capture the moment.

Rusted desk is rusty.

That door was surprisingly light, it actually kind of scared me when I managed to swing it open so easily.

This award in particular, was special.

I wanted to go into that cage, but I didn't feel like climbing over.

Oven thing?

The boiler room.

Boiler room again.

Looking into one of the basements through a hole in the wall - also flooded.

The storage room from one of the first shots.

Trashed.

There's only one inaccessible area in the building. This is not it.

This room was actually kind of comfortable - cleared out in in comparison to the others.

Beware the penis board!
