So I've decided to try to write here every day, AGAIN. I'm sure this happens with a gajillion other people on here and with physical journals or diaries too. It's a hard thing to keep up when there's so little time in a day. We'll see what happens.
I'm going to write about my progress in putting together a comic book portfolio/proposal. It's a subject I hope I can write about every day, which will hopefully, in turn, make me work on the portfolio every day so I have something to write about here. Maybe it'll turn out to be a 'viscious cycle' that I'll be happy to have started.
From everything I've heard, comic book companies would rather see a printed comic book with your work in it than see a sketchbook full or drawings. They want to see that you can produce a finished product and tell a story with multiple pages, as opposed to single drawings of characters.
So, I've decided to gather up all of my ideas, pick a few of the best ones that show a range of style in the writing and art, and produce my own little anthology of short stories and/or previews of what could be longer stories. The previews could also be seen as proposals for graphic novels or ongoing series. I then plan to send the printed book out to publishers and bring it around to comic conventions (which I heard is the better way to do it.)
I don't really know if it's something I want to do for a living. I know that sounds weird, but I know the chances of making decent money doing it are slim to none. And I know that people who are comic book artists for a living, work on them a billion hours a week, and I have Acrasjia as my main priority. But I'm hoping it's something I can do on an intermittent basis while maybe having a 'second job' that would pay the bills.
I love comic books though. I tink it's such an amazing art form. At it's best it's like reading a novel while walking though an art gallery and having them both tell the same story. There's so much you can do with a comic. The possibilities are boundless. They just haven't been pushed very far. All you see are superheroes doing the same things they've done for the last 70 years or so, just with a slight twist. I admit, I still like some of those comics, but in general I like the ones that do something different. I hope do to some of those. I really want to try something different.
Well, I guess that's enough for today. I don't want to blow my wad in one entry. I know I won't be working on the portfolio for two days since I'm going out to eat tonight and have band practice tomorrow.
