Oliver got out of practice a bit early. They'd worked hard and he'd begged off going to the weight room after lunch. He'd flooed home and his mother had told her he needed to speak to her. He'd never made such a request and she seemed shocked, but had agreed, albeit reluctantly

He led Fred down the steps and stopped in the sitting room, where his mother had sat down with her tea.
"We're going," Oliver said, nodding at her. He really wasn't sure what else to say. He wouldn't see her again.
"Take care of yourself," she said, standing and walking them to the door.
"You too. If you need anything, you can..."
"I know."
Oliver shoved his hands in his pockets. "I'll talk to dad in a week or so. I won't tell him that you know."
"Thank you."
He nodded and then hugged her, and she patted his back awkwardly. "Bye mum," he said, smiling.
"Goodbye, Oliver." She nodded at Fred and opened the door for them and Oliver took Fred's hand, looked at her once more, and led him out onto the porch.
When the door closed behind them, Oliver glanced at Fred. "The stream is off the property. We're safe to go there if you want? If you still want to see it."

He smiled at Oliver's mother and would have told her to please let them know if she ever needed help, but he'd been fairly certain he'd not be able to get the words out.
Fred nodded, smiling at Oliver when he mentioned the stream. Maybe he could make him smile. "Please," he said softly.

Once they crossed the apparition wards, he slid his arm around Fred's waist, looking back at the house and then at his lover. "Hey, it's okay. Honest. I love my mum... and she'd have been a good mum, if it wasn't for him. I think. But I mourned her a long time ago. Really."
He squeezed Fred to him and nudged his hip with his own. "I want to see what pictures you knicked, too. Did you get the one of me the day I got into the blueberry preserves? I looked like a potions experiment gone awry."
As they walked, the sound of the stream grew louder the closer they got. "You're okay? I just don't want you to be too disappointed. I think she liked you. How could she not?"

When they were past the wards, into the forest Fred stopped and pulled Oliver hard into his arms. "I'm fine. I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you. I don't know how, exactly, but I'll spend the rest of my life trying." He kissed him and buried his face in Oliver's neck and kissed him again.
"The pictures are all perfect," he murmured into his neck. "Just like you."

He pulled back and kissed him, his fingers carding through Fred's hair. "Now, you'll cheer up. I don't need to toss you in the stream to make you smile, do I?" he teased lightly.

It took him a minute and then he consciously got a grip. Charlie would have had a field day with his last 10 minutes. "So show me this stream, lover, and you can throw me in it if you like. Lord knows I deserve it."
