So yeah, neither of us having a car pretty much blows. However, things are actually starting to somewhat look up. I purchased a bike via craigslist for $50; it's not top of the line by any means, but it is functional. So, even though I hadn't seriously rode a bike in over 10 years, I decided to ride my new conveyance to Menards, a little over 5 miles away...at 3:30 in the morning. (my shift started at 4:45, and needed enough time to get there in time) It wasn't too bad, except that after the ride home I felt like I had been sodomized by a bull elephant...(ignore previous post please) yeah, my butt hurt...A LOT! So as of today, I am taking up my friend's offers of rides to and from work; except on Saturday, the day I start at that ungodly hour. But, I don't think I'll have to be asking for rides after this thursday...
I got a hold of Dan and asked him if his dad would be willing to sell me one of his many cars; he has more sitting in front of his house than people who are legally able to drive in the house. Anyway, I ask him about his, and he mentions that his dad was considering donating an old Bonneville to the fire department; he apparently gets a small tax write off by doing this. But since the car isn't really worth that much, Dan said all I would have to do is get it put into my name...that's right, he's basically GIVING me a car! It's not the greatest...in fact, I'm going to have to take rt. 45 the whole way home, but it's a car! Granted, I'll have to pay for the title and plates, but the car itself is being 'donated' to me. "But Derek, how will you get up there to get it?" you might be asking yourself...
Well, I asked Sarah for what I call an epic favor...basically to drive my happy ass to Orland Park to pick up the car; and to my great surprise, she agreed! Sarah is now my new best friend! We're going up there on thursday...don't worry, I plan on compensating her with gas money, and depending on my cash on hand, lunch as well. I know I'm going to have to get gas into the Bonneville...I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
In response to my previous, very emo post, I have to admit that I never thought of writing papers for illiterate frat boys; I'll be looking into that when they get back from spring break. I'm also not allowed to give blood/plasma due to me being type 2 diabetic; apparently I have dirty blood or something. This also kept me out of the Navy, but that's a rant for another life...I need to get to bed, as I have to get to the bank early to see about a small personal loan to get Gretchen's car back...wish me luck!
