Yes, she did.
In 2008, she ran unopposed. From the
Waukesha County Clerk's site:
VOTES PERCENT
COUNTY CLERK
KATHY NICKOLAUS (REP) . . . . . . 170,797 99.68
WRITE-IN. . . . . . . . . . . 545 .32
Worse yet, in 2004, she run unopposed as well. From
Waukesha County's website:
COUNTY CLERK
KATHY NICKOLAUS (REP) . . . . . . 168,131 99.69
WRITE-IN. . . . . . . . . . . 529 .31
She didn't run for County Clerk in 2000 because she was in the State Assembly at the time. That didn't end well for her, as this paragraph from a
Christian Science Monitor article, points out:
Nickolaus is now under scrutiny for her ties to the state’s Republican party. She worked as a data analyst and computer specialist for the state’s Republican caucus for 13 years, a time window that included Prosser’s brief tenure as Assembly speaker in 1995 and 1996.
A 2002 corruption probe investigating state employees working on campaigns on state time led to indictments of five legislative leaders, but Nickolaus received immunity from prosecutors and resigned that same year.
After tonight's fiasco, I got fed up and wrote this email to Victor Weers, Chair of the Waukesha County Democratic Party:To: chairman@waukeshadems.org
Subject: Please find a candidate to oppose KATHY NICKOLAUS!
Mr. Weers,
In 2008, she ran unopposed for county clerk. Make sure you have a candidate to oppose her next year. If nothing else, try to recruit one off the list of municipal clerks at the link; at least one of them has to be a Democrat.
http://www.waukeshacounty.gov/defaultwc.aspx?id=38099 If I lived in your county, I'd run myself, but I can't. Instead, as soon as you can convince someone to run against her, please email me with their contact info and I'll be thrilled to donate to them.
Anyone here know any Democrat in Waukesha County with political ambitions?
