Another installment of my growing up around show business people
Last month, I described how I grew up with one of the members of The Runaways. The month before that I summarized my little sister's experiences with quite a few Hollywood people. This month, my mom mentioned two people from my high school days who have show business connections.
The first is Steven Hirsch, who was in my little sister's grade, which means he and I were at the same high school during my senior year. He's now the head of Vivid Entertainment, currently the largest producer of "erotic entertainment" on video. I had no idea that when I was renting videos just after my divorce that I was putting money into his pocket!
Speaking of putting money into people's pockets, Steve Hirsch made news recently by offering to pay off Octmom's mortgage if she made a sex tape for Vivid. I don't think she accepted.
For what it's worth, Steve wasn't the only pornographer I recall from my youth. The daughter of one of the presidents of Caballero Control Corporation was in my sisters' Brownie and Girl Scout troops, although the family was long gone by the time I was in high school. But he wasn't the other person my mom mentioned.
The other person whose name my mom dropped was my A.P. English teacher from my senior year--Sharon Daley Barovsky. She was a professional writer as well as a teacher and had worked on several screenplays. She lives in Malibu and just recently finished serving as Mayor of Malibu Beach. It was her role as mayor that prompted my mom to mention her. As for my old English teacher, she's planning on returning to writing. This should be entertaining. She always had a sharp eye and an even sharper tongue.
