I forgot to talk about the new official Bluetooth headset that came in the SOCOM package yesterday, so indulge me.
I mainly bought the game for the headset. The headset alone is $50. The game alone on PSN is $40. The game with the headset is $60... so I would be pretty much crazy not to buy the game and headset package.
Those of you who are a little less informed about the headset are probably asking what's so special about this headset and aren't they all the same and so on. I already had a headset, so why would I buy another?
Being that this one is official, it has a few special features. In combination with firmware 2.5, the headset can use a new high quality mode. I cannot understate how great high quality mode is. I honestly am not sure if it's just for your voice or for others, but I can tell you that when playing with other people also using the new headset, the difference is night and day. Voices are much more well-defined leading to much less of a "huh?" factor. Instead of sounding muffled, or worse, Xbox Live quality (each time I watch a video with people on Live talking, I can NEVER understand it, making those "idiots of Xbox live" videos useless). It's even better than standard land line quality, in my experience.
Included in the package is a charging stand that you attach via USB cable to the PS3. The mic can still be used while charging, making the headset turn into a big microphone. One hell of a sensitive microphone at that.
But my favorite thing about the headset is that hitting the power button on the headset pops up a prompt in the top right of the screen (just like your PSN notifications) showing you the current volume and quality settings and battery life. I can't tell you how many times I've been annoyed by my older headset dying without more than a minute warning while in an intense game of Burnout.
In other words, as much as I hated the troubles I had trying to play SOCOM, I love the headset in every way possible and can't find a single fault or problem with it.

Last night, I was up late playing games. Nothing in particular. I just wasn't in the mood for getting further into Uncharted on hard. I just felt like sitting back and relaxing a bit, so I played some Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars and racking up some online wins.
At about 1:30am, I got a message from one of my PSN friends, a major SOCOM fan.
"SOCOM WORKING PERFECTLY RIGHT NOW!"
Yeah, I gotta wait until 1:30am for the game to work correctly?
I continued playing ranked matches of Battle Cars and was about to quit to join him on SOCOM when...
"NEVERMIND, JUST CRASHED"
...yeah.
