USians! There's a whitehouse.gov petition to restrict members of Congress' pay to $75,000 a year for three years in order to repay the national debt. At the moment, they get paid $174,000 a year; this will increase to $175,900 on March 27. The Speaker of the House makes $223,500; the majority and minority leaders and president pro tempore are paid $19,400. All these have been the same since 2009. Which, frankly, is absurd, given the median personal income in 2010 was $26,197 and the median household income was $50,144 in 2010.
They want to reduce the national debt? This is a start.
