Hey VRS lovers, (VRS means VideoRelayService)
Some of us did get the postcards from
www.vrsca.org about FCC's plan to cut the budget for VRS services.
It said, "The government is considering cutting the budget for relay services. Additionally, they are reviewing a proposal to eliminate outreach funding, which is the way that Deaf individuals learn about relay options.
Here is what this will mean to you:
- Fewer new interpreters
- Insufficient interpreter training
- Slower improvements in hold times
As a member of the deaf community, you know how important these relay communicatinos services are-you depend on them everday for work or home.
Help stop the Proposed Cuts!
- Be heard- Fill out and mail the postcard attached today It would go directly to the Federal Communicatinos Commission.
- Stay Imformed-visit www.vrsca.org and click on "Latest VRS Issue"
- Respond Today-Get your friends and family members to take action today and contact the FCC."
All of you who do want to suppor this idea and please write a letter to FCC and do it as much as you can!!!!
"To: Chairman martin: Commissioners Tate, Copps and Adelstein
I am a Deaf user of relay communications service. I strongly urge you to increase funding for these services and not cut funding. These services are important to me and to other Deaf individuals, our families and co-workers. Cuts would be devastating. I want more Deaf people to use TTY, VRS, and IP Relay, not less. "

Dear Chairman Martin, Commissioners Adelstein, Copps and Tate:
I am a deaf person and I use Video Relay Service, IP Relay or TTY to communicate. I am writing to thank you for supporting services that meet the communications needs of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, and to urge you to increase rather than cut the rate for these vital services. I, together with many other deaf people, their families and coworkers, depend on VRS and other relay services to communicate with hearing people and other deaf people.
We should be encouraging more deaf people to use VRS. Deaf people use these services as part of their work and part of their lives. We urge you to do everything you can to make VRS and other relay services available to the many deaf people who do not currently know they are available.
FCC has mandated improvements in VRS, and we applaud those improvements. We urge you to provide adequate funding to support continued improvement to VRS, and to support outreach to more people in the deaf community.
Increase funding for VRS and other relay services, don't cut it.
Sincerely,
