Still having fun with my mp3 player, I had a weird fit recently and decided to put together a 60's/psychedelia themed playlist. So, I decided to go music CD shopping for the first time in a while. In addition to picking up the latest discs from Skinny Puppy and Frontline Assembly, for my usual tastes in music, I picked thru the compilations sections and picked up a few 60's "hippie music" discs. I also found something that made me really happy,  a 2-disc Live disc of the Brian Setzer Orchestra. The man kicked ass with the Stray Cats, but he does sooooo much better with this group of musicians. If you like that sort of music - big band/swing sound with a screaming guitar, I recommend to grab "Brian Setzer Orchestra - the Ultimate Collection, recorded Live" (in Montreal, CA and Tokyo, JP)

But anyhow, I'm trying to build me a playlist of good 60's/Psychedia music. I'm not against more modern songs, as long as they have that same sound to them. Here's what I've got so far:

Turn, Turn, Turn - The Byrds
Somebody to Love - Jefferson Airplane
Incense and Peppermints - Strawberry Alarm Clock
War - Edwin Starr
Time of the Season - The Zombies
Signs - Five Man Electrical Band
Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In - The Fifth Dimension
Elenore - The Turtles
Along Comes Mary - The Association
Gloria - Shadows Of Night
Happy Together - The Turtles
She's Not There - The Zombies
There's A Kind Of Hush - Herman's Hermits

That's just from the CD shopping trip I took yesterday. Other tracks I know I'll be adding, off the top of my head, include:

Golden Brown - The Stranglers
Hazy Shade of Winter - The Bangles (it fits the theme)
a couple of suitable tracks from Pink Floyd's "Piper at the Gates of Dawn"
Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harem
Mellow Yellow - Donovan
In-a-gadda-da-vida - Iron Butterfly (yes, the looooooong version)
a couple of suitable Jimi Hendrix tunes
House of the Rising Sun - Eric Burdon andThe Animals
Frank Zappa stuff, of course
Karn Evil 9 - Emerson, Lake and Palmer

These are just the beginning, but the reason I'm making this post is to hopefully harvest other music suggestions for this playlist. And then I get the joy of trying to get copies of all the songs. Sometimes I miss the "golden age" of music sharing online, and regret that I didn't partake of it that much when it was around. Are their any decent services to buy songs off the net? And don't fucking tell me iTunes, cause IIRC, isn't all their stuff in DRM-infested AAC format? My player can only deal with mp3 and wma - it can't even do ogg, so I had to convert some stuff.

So, come on and help me out here - I know there's got to be some other people that read my babbles that have quirky musical tastes that could help me out with suggestions. Come on out of the closet and give me more ideas, kiddies. :P
