Some slightly sorrowful news must be conveyed in the following entry. The stray cat who's been loitering around our house this last year has met his Waterloo. Whilst crossing the road this morning he must have been silenced by a car, and now his corpse lies on the road.
He wasn't what you'd call a pet, note. Most of the time he just came for his daily portion of food, and left shortly after if no one was around to give him some attention. We never even named him, we just referred to him as "The cat". He was too much of a vagabond, idly wandering from place to place scrounging for innocent mice and the like. He usually just sat on the window-sill, staring intently across the horizon, offering the odd 'meow' and preening his fur determinedly.
But even though he was too much of a vagrant for him to become truly integrated into this family, I'll miss his visits. It was quite cheering to wake up in the morning, walk into the kitchen and have him leap onto the car for a better view into our daily lives. And while there's no doubt he's been in more fights than Judge Dredd, he still looked pretty cute.
So may he rest in peace.
I myself am not much of an animal lover. ( As you can imagine, I've made a lot of enemies on Animal Crossing because of that fact. ) But yeah, although several cats have passed through my lifetime, and fish have come and gone-I've never grown too attached to any of them. Therefore, I can't really relate to those who must grieve following an animal's death. To be honest, I've been lucky enough thus far as I haven't had any close friends or relatives die, either. Grieving is foreign to me, whether it be for a human or an animal.
So my questions for the audience. Would those on my Friends List call themselves animal lovers? Ever had a pet that you loved and then lost? Never had a pet? Had an unusual pet, like a turtle, a snake, a Dewgong? Post your answers here, so that we may hear of your tales.
Oh, and there's no need for any of you to sympathise, or to express your condolences. It might sound rather cruel, but I'll quickly get over this loss.
