..and one for all!
Take a look at this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogtanian In my latest issue of NEO ( OMG, a plug ) there was an article about the DVD release of "The Mysterious Cities of Gold." It was this bit, however, that caught my attention:
"If you grew up in the '80s, you were probably exposed to anime without even knowing it. Animated series like Ulysses 31, The Mysterious Cities of Gold and DOGTANIAN AND THE THREE MUSKAHOUNDS..."
I remembered that show! I didn't grow up in the 80s, but the series no doubt survived in re-runs until the mid-90s, if I can remember it. It wasn't even that long ago, I reckon. The article continued:
"Series such as these, were often co-produced with a Japanese company covering the animation while American, Canadian or British companies provided the English dubs and cast, making them-for all intents and purposes-anime!"
So, as this article suggests...Dogtanian was the first anime ( sorta ) I watched! Or at least, encountered. But there's more. Thinking back to the show, I'm now able to make a connection I wasn't able to before. The main character ( Dogtanian ) sounded like Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! And Leonardo was voiced by none other than Cam Clarke, who did indeed voice Dogtanian as well, I found. But more than that-Cam Clarke is the voice of Kratos!
A nice piece of information, I thought. Surely Cam Clarke had planned this all along, no? Heh, look at me writing about Cam Clarke... I become more like Meowzy every day.
