(Prompt One) First Reaction

My reaction to this book so far is kind of indifferent.

What I like, though, is the fact that every so often, O'Brien tells what certain things the soliders carried. For example...
(pg. 9) "What they carried varied by mission..." or (pg. 5) "What they carried was aprty a function of rank, partly a field of speciality."

Something that I find interesting to this first part of the book is how often O'Brien makes references to Lt. Cross and his love for Martha. It seems to be re-occuring.

So far, (just so far), his writing is kind of like every other author's I've read. But who knows? Maybe it'll get better throughout the book.
