As Darkseid's taxi pulls up to the specified motel, he can't help but smile a little. Tess has really done an excellent job in selecting her hiding place, as no one would possibly think to look for her here. Except for him, of course ( Read more... )

Tess is not expecting a visitor. Point of fact, Tess isn't expecting anyone, so the knocking at her door is going to put her on high suspicion alert.

She grabs a gun from one of her bags, makes sure it's loaded and then approaches the hinged side of the door, weapon at the ready. "Who is it?"

Darkseid lets out a small breath of laughter from the other side of the door, and then there's a moment's silence before he replies. When he does, however, his response is rather simple.

"D."

That catches her off guard momentarily while she attempts to sort that out.

Darkseid?

New question, and the door still isn't being opened. "What do you want?"

Another small laugh.

"Must we continue this conversation in this manner, Tess? I'd rather talk to you than the door."

"Who said I'd kill you?" Tess quirks an eyebrow again, possibly mildly amused herself.

His own eyebrows lift at that. "So you'd shoot me, keeping me alive to suffer? This is a very intriguing plan. What would you do next, I wonder?"

She shrugs gamefully. "Well, we are completely alone and I have who knows how much time on my hands. No point in getting it all over with right away and I did bring more than just a gun with me."

"Ah, so you'd shoot me and then keep me alive for entertainment?" he inquires, studying her in mock fascination. "Well, it would certainly be an efficient way of keeping me from talking too much, were the bullet aimed correctly."

"Mmm," she noises thoughtfully, looking him over curiously. "Almost enough to upgrade your status from 'secret admirer' to 'stalker'."

Now it's his turn to laugh softly as he considers that. "I suppose that's an understandable conclusion. But 'stalker' sounds so...obsessive. As if all my thoughts and efforts are bent on you alone. I've already told you that's not the case."

He leans back in his chair and pauses to regard her with a smile once more. "Though I do, of course, very much enjoy seeing your decidedly pretty face."

"Lucky for me I believe you. Besides, there are far more interesting people for any potential stalkers to be obsessed with."

Then she just shakes her head, amused. "See, now that I know these are all just facts, I can't even say thank you."

"Mmm. Well, as far as interesting people go, you are fairly high on the list. In a completely non-obsessive way, of course."

Then he'll give another shrug. "I did say I was capable of both complimentary facts and genuine flattery. Telling which is which is left entirely up to you."

"That's not what I meant."

Tess half turns to meet his gaze. "Why, are you planning on making a nuisance of yourself?"

"Care to explain yourself, then?"

He shrugs. "I wasn't, but that almost sounded like a request."

"What, and give away something your amazing powers of fact finding can't figure out?" She smiles once more, even if fleetingly. "No, I think I'll keep that mystery alive, thank you. Just on principle."

He gets her full attention then. "That depends on what kind of nuisance you'd be."

His face reflects amusement again at that. "I never said I couldn't figure it out. But everyone has a right to be given a chance to explain themselves."

Then he tilts his head at her and lifts an eyebrow. "Well, what kind of nuisance would you want me to be?"

Tess tucks her bare feet up on the bed as well now and regards him with curiosity. "What ideas do you have left?"

darkseidofmoon April 19 2010, 05:01:00 UTC
"Well," he starts, pretending to think about it, "we're limited to the confines of your room, left to ourselves, lacking any form of entertainment whatsoever other than each other. Deep and meaningful discussions would require thought, so they're obviously not an option. What else is there?"

"I do have a TV." Which is a bit of a novelty to her, in all honesty.

"But we might stumble across one of those detective shows and get caught up in the process of solving the crime," she muses. "So I suppose we'll just have to take what we've got."

Darkseid gives her an amused smile at that. "Which is what, exactly?" He pushes off his shoes as he poses the question, moving his own feet so as to match Tess' position once more.
