Raising glasses of Powder Hound to the masses

Dec 31, 2006 16:52

2 bottles of Hale's' Wee Heavy winter ale
2 bottles of the Fish Brewery's Winter Fish Ale
2 bottles of Full Sail's Wassail
4 bottles of Anchor's Christmas Ale
4 bottles of Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale
2 bottles of Hale's Moss Bay Extra
2 bottles of Big Sky's Powder Hound seasonal
1 pint of the Scuttlebutt 10 Below Ale
1 pint Snoqualmie Avalanche Ale
1 pint Port Townsend Winter Ale

Also . . .
1 bottle of that yummy Hidalgo Cream Sherry with all the hyphens
1 bottle Chateau Les Quatre Filles Cotes du Rhone (2005)
1 bottle of the Blackstone Winery's Sauvignon Blanc (2005)
1 bottle of Momokawa Pearl unfiltered sake

And, of course . . .

2 fifths (one tenth?) of homemade eggnog.

The Boy went on a fancy rum run because he insists that the eggnog is not rummy enough. I think the vast quantities of brandy, bourbon, and sherry that were included in addition to the rum would more than compensate for what he thought of as "skimping on the rum", but personal taste, you realize, is entirely subjective.

What I mean to say is this: Hell yes there's stuff to celebrate.

I learned a great deal about my currently favored trade and craft and am more determined now than ever to worry my way into it as deeply as possible without burning out like a spent firecracker. I found and nurtured love and friendships more intensely than in previous years. Though the circumstances around this were suspect, I reconnected with family and came out of it with all of my extremities attached. I learned more about loving myself and how to work hard and love others without hurting myself.

Best of all, my mother won't have to undergo chemotherapy and the surgeon is 99% sure that they caught the cancer in time.

Not to say that some terrible things didn't happen this year . . . my loved ones lost a mother and a friend, and I lost some friends and acquaintances as a result of, well, lots of things.

Whatever happened, I have a home, a partner, good food and libations to consume and share, and people out there and around here who love me. That is all I really need and all that I ask for in the end.

Happy New Year, kittens.
