Bloody heckling heck. I KNEW I disliked Tim Eyman, but car tabs and flat taxes are one thing and codified homophobia is another.
Special interests my sweet buttery foot. The Anderson-Murray bill prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. That's right, you guys, Bluey McBlueState Washington, for YEARS, had systematically failed to garner enough votes in Olympia to pass this thing. So, yeah, any one of my employers could've blatantly fired me or most of my friends because we're queer and we wouldn't have any legal fucking recourse because state law basically has no prohibition against that specific brand of discrimination.
Until, of course, we passed the thing a few days ago.
Says Governor Gregoire: "I'm surprised someone would file an initiative to say let's discriminate against our fellow citizens...it strikes me as counter to the values of the state of Washington to have an initiative now that would say to the people of the state of Washington it's ok to discriminate... against gays and lesbians."
Well, thanks. I think this might persuade me to stop calling her Governor Skeletor.
