I want Flash

Anime club had a Sailor Moon marathon today. I actually did not watch Sailor Moon growing up because I didn't get Cartoon Network. Didn't watch it AT ALL. My complete SaIlor Moon knowledge is from love_the_fuzzy and mcrwayperfect09 . Now I've seen half of the first season dubbed, and half of the 5th season in Japanese. Subs were in and out on that disc because we put it on the PS2, but the DVD was probably bootlegged, so the subs would just stop working randomly. I was able to understand a surprising amount, considering how little Japanese I know. Must have Soul Eater to thank for that.
Speaking of Soul Eater, I finished it. I did pick up some stuff, and was able to identify lots of stuff I already knew. That was cool. It was a good series overall, and I do recommend it, but there's stuff it could improve on. Good things: animation quality, fight scenes, (first) opening theme, (most of the) character designs, art design, Crona, Maka, Death, Medusa, Stein, Soul.
Not so good things: Lack of Maka/Soul fight scenes, length of Maka/Soul fight scenes, Arachne and Arachnaphobia, the ending (sort of), where is Maka's mother?!, plot holes, lack of backstory and character development.
Medusa was a really cool villain. Arachne was the opposite of Medusa. Sadly, this made Arachne not cool. Medusa did everything herself and had a really awesome character design. Arachne was boobs and a dress, and just sat back and let the evil organization do stuff. Sorry, but no. The main characters had quite literally NO backstory. One ten-second scene for Soul and Maka, a story for Black Star, a whole minute for Tsubaki, and a minute for Liz and Patty. Crona got entire episodes. Crona was not a main character. It was Crona I cared most about because Crona had a really awesome character arc. (WTF with all the Crona/Kid fanart, though?)
Almost everyone had really cool character designs. The only ones I didn't like were Giriko, Arachne, Marie, Azusa, and Arachnaphobia. I'm not sure why, either. Everyone else was just SO cool, that the other characters were pretty bland. EVERYONE, even Ox Ford, Kilik, Excaliber, Spirit, and random throwaway early villains.
Most important about the series, though, is that I came away not shipping anything. Anything I like really hard, I usually ship something. Baccano, I shipped Jacuzzi/Nice, Eureka Seven of course Eureka/Renton, Code Geass was Villetta/Ohgi and Suzaku/Euphemia, FMA is Winry/Ed, Riza/Roy... but I don't really ship Soul/Maka. I like the relationship a lot, but not as romance. Nor did I like Crona romantically paired with anyone. Crona is way too emotionally messed up to get into that kind of relationship, though. But no shippings for me. Just friendship.
I really love the series, though. Flaws, yes, but it was fun, and the ART. :D I got a new favorite opening theme~~! I want to cosplay Maka someday. Maybe that can be my first female cosplay. ^^;;
Last, but not least! Although kinda, because I spent less time watching it than everything else in this entry XD Saw Princess and the Frog again! (twice!) (very very mild spoiler-ish things ahead)
I made a point of remembering the other Anastasia-like things that were in it. One, Naveen has a "oh, well, it's too bad that you can't do this with us, I'm going to leave now, see ya." "Naveen, what is that supposed to do--" "Wait for it..." "HEY GUYS, WAIT UP!" moment just like Dimitri. Then, they dance and almost!kiss. Including the talisman-that-needs-to-break-to-kill-bad-guy, the shadow magic, and the fact that they fight before falling in love, there's quite a few similarities. The overall plot is different, so it could be coincidence, but it's interesting to note how many similarities there are. Perhaps just because they're the most modern "Disney" princess movies--Anastasia being Don Bluth, not Disney, but getting confused for Disney all the time.
Going to spend tomorrow studying now. ^^;;
