I figure its late but its worth posting this since were now in holiday shopping mode.
A few days ago i was at the mall killing some time before work and overheard a conversation.
Customer: Excuse me are you the manager?
Employee: No i am not can i help you with something?
Customer: Well Julie in petite bent over backwards to help me and i wanted to tell someone
Employee: Well if you like i can give you the e-mail or phone number of our management so you can tell them.
Customer: Oh i don't like talking on the phone
Employee: Well if you like out executive office is down the stairs and to the left if you want to tell them in person.
Customer: No that's to much work, ah well good day.
yeah it happened and it does annoy me some. If a customer is offended they will move heaven and earth to have an employee face the punishment THEY feel the person deserves. Yet you do something nice for them and its to much work to pass on the good deed which can help the employee out some next time they make a mistake or are being evaluated.
My own manager told me she tries to listen in when am with a customer since she can only assume they are happy with my service.
Then i just read an article on holiday tipping on who to tip and not to tip. Hell the reason you tip your garbage man and mail guy is more because they can screw you over easily by losing your mail or leaving your garbage bin half full or forgetting it all together. garbage men especially since in NY you bribe them on non bulk pickup days to take shit and yet they still expect a holiday bonus from you.
The article said do not top gas attendents, or retail people who help you carry stuff like grocery store employees or guys like me that bring furniture out to your car. Yeah why tip us were just packmules am lucky if i get a thankyou. Most of the time its what do you mean you dont have rope or packing blankets for my expensive dresser i just bought, or well why should i thank you i have to unload it myself when i get home. Oh and dont tip gas attentends because its not your fault they dont get paid much and have to be outside in god knows what weather. No god forbid you get out of your precious BMW and dirty your own hands.
Just saying people show some respect out there to all the employees who help you. People who work with the public always get the crap end of the straw because its always our fault for everything stupid you do.
