Movies

Haven't done one of these in a while, so there are a few!

Okay, really. I do NOT get this movie. I feel like the majority of people are so blown away by the CG (which, don't get me wrong, is incredible) that they give the movie a free pass on its considerable flaws. All I hear is “OMG AMAZING BEST MOVIE I'VE SEEN IN YEARS.” when all I can see was a decent movie, at best. The story is unoriginal, and the characters are cardboard, and the DIALOGUE. WHO LET JAMES CAMERON THINK HE CAN WRITE DIALOGUE? Ugghh. The CG is good for bringing you into his world, but once you get there, you're left going “Okay, so it's pretty. That's it?”. There's not one quality about any of the characters that makes them interesting or unique. I am a fan of many of the actors, but I just....didn't care what happened to their characters. There were some fun action sequences, granted, and the creature designs were great, but that was about it.

So, yeah. Underneath the spectacular CG, it's a decidedly unremarkable movie which TOTALLY DID NOT DESERVE THE GOLDEN GLOBE FOR BEST PICTURE AND BEST DIRECTOR OVER INGLORIOUS BASTERDS. CAPSLOCK RAGE FOR THAT!

Daybreakers
Let me preface this by stating my staunch opinion about vampire movies.

VAMPIRES ARE MONSTERS.
THEY ARE NOT YOUR BOYFRIENDS.
THEY DO NOT SPARKLE.
THEY DO NOT LOVE YOU.
THEY ARE TERRIFYING CREATURES OF DARKNESS WHO WANT YOUR BLOOD.
PERIOD.

Phew, okay. Ethan Hawke is a sort of exception to my rules, but only because he weaned himself off of human blood. That being said, this movie was the vampire movie I've been waiting for. The vamps are closer to zombies than anything when they are blood-starved enough. They are SCARY like they're supposed to be, and turn into horrible deformed monsters when they go without blood for too long. The movie is fun and kick-ass and NO ONE FREAKING SPARKLES. More vampire movies like this, please!

OH YEAH AND UM SAM NEILL AND WILLEM DEFOE, YES PLEASE.

Sherlock Holmes
Oh my god I loved this movie so ridiculously much. I have giganto crushes on RDJ and Jude Law, and they have perfect bromantic chemistry together. It's pretty much House MD the movie, where House and Wilson have a fight club on weekends. It's that same level of brilliance and badassery. Seriously, the scenes where Holmes would break down each blow of a fight and explain the physical ramifications of each hit? Just amazing. And the music and mysteries and everything gaaaah <3. If you see one movie that's in theaters now, see this one. Plus, it totally got me interested enough to buy the entire book collection. :D

Grade: A+ like whoa!

Princess & The Frog
I've been so excited about this movie since I first found out about it, and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest! First of all, it was GORGEOUS. I mean, seriously, screw Avatar, this movie blew me away with the animation. I am such a sucker for 2-D animation over 3-D, and this movie is a perfect example of why. The world is lush and the characters practically jump off the screen with charm and personality. Prince Naveen is totally my favorite Disney prince now, as he's so adorable and funny all throughout. :D Tiana is great as well and she is a sterling example of a perfect female lead in her strong convictions about herself and what she wants. My favorite part of the movie had to be Dr.Facilier, though. I have a huge voice crush on Keith David, dating back to when he was Goliath on Gargoyles. HE SINGS, GUYS. I LOVED his song so freaking much. And the animation sequence during his number was absolutely incredible. This movie was the Disney movie I've been pining for, and a return to the Disney magic I had almost believed was lost.

Heroes S04E16

Hahaha, wow, this episode was so much awesome. First of all, Hiro's unconscious courtroom of doom? I was rolling hardcore. Adam, Kaito and Sylar all cracked me up in that sequence, haha. Totally made me realize just how much I miss Adam and Kaito, though. Ando had me d'awwing like whoa, as well.

You guys may not know this, but I'm totally a closet Sylaire shipper. WHAT? They're both immortal, and ZQ is smoking hot, and she hates him so much which means angry*sex and hnnnrgh. What was I saying? Oh yeah, they totally kissed and I loved it. :D I do wonder where they're going with this, though, because now apparently Sylar randomly wants to be rid of his powers, which leaves me going “BWUH?”. That's been his motivation for the ENTIRE series, and he's killed a crapload of people, and now he just wants to give it up? I am sick of the writers changing his character drastically every season. I LIKE IT WHEN HE'S JUST CRAZY, OKAY?

Oh, another surprise! SAMUEL IS FINALLY INTERESTING! Maybe they're toning Sylar down to bring in Samuel as a big villain? I'm kinda okay with that, because he is a badass when he's pissed. MORE OF THAT, PLEASE.

Pictures
There's a theme today!

RDJ = WIN.  THAT SMILE, GUH.

I love these pictures, even though I have no idea what's going on. He's shirtless, and gorgeous, okay? I don't need more justification than that.

Stuff I'm really excited about
Sherlock Holmes is fasttracked for a March 30th DVD release!
RDJ and Christoph Waltz getting well-deserved Golden Globes (they couldn't get them ALL wrong, I suppose!)
Star Trek sequel is CONFIRMED! For next summer, even! :D

Scissor Sisters - I Can't Decide

Thanks to this Doctor Who clip! For the record, I ADORE the Master to no end, and this scene should prove why.

Today's hotness

Had to sneak one more in there. OH LIKE YOU'RE SURPRISED IN THE SLIGHTEST.

Quote

Col. Hans Landa: That's a bingo! Is that the way you say it? "That's a bingo?"
Lt. Aldo Raine: You just say "bingo".
Col. Hans Landa: Ahhh! BINGO! What fun!

From Inglorious Basterds. This is why Hans Landa is a fantastic villain, and why Christoph's Golden Globe for best supporting actor is so well-deserved.

That's all for now.
