I found out yesterday that Lloyd Alexander, the writer of such classics as the Prydain Chronicles, passed away on May 17th. This probably shouldn't have been shocking, as he was 83, but I have mentioned on several occasions that it would be a sad, sad day when he died. A sad, sad day, apparently, that I missed and had to be informed of several ( Read more... )

*Chestthud*. I wish I'd been able to meet him to tell him some of this in person.

It is indeed a sad day, hearing this news. Oddly enough, I just started reading the Prydain Chronicles again yesterday, after going years without thinking of them.

As soon as I heard the news, I decided that it was high time I read them again. It's like spending time with an old friend... but with more sword fights.

I'd honestly never heard the name before, but now, reading your post, I really want to go hit the library tomorrow :)

I don't think you'll regret it. The novels are meant for children, but the characters are terribly charming. They're clearly written by a person with a great love and respect for the genre.

The novels are meant for children

That was what grabbed my attention :) Kidlit and YAF make up 95% of my reading matter. If I'm browsing the library, it's in the teen section, then the children's, THEN the adult ;)

That and I did a little googling and ooh, interesting :)

I did NOT know that. :(
I loved his books when I was a kid!

It's unfortunate that everyone, no matter how amazing their books are, must eventually die.
