[ With a click, the communication feed starts.  Robin can be seen sitting near an old, dilapitated building with her arm still in a makeshift cast. ]

I believe that if there is ever a time for scholarship, now would probably be a good idea.

[ With her not-jacked-up arm, she lifts her hand to her mouth and coughs. ]

I'm not a medical scholar, however, ( Read more... )

You shouldn't be outside without reason, Miss Robin, the ash!

...Any time in the morning during the week. Sundays I go on supply runs, and I'd like to keep Saturday as my day of rest. But perhaps it should wait until this ash is through, or your arm healed.

Don't worry too much, Professor. With the exception of those few seconds, I've been staying indoors and keeping clothing over my face--though, I've certainly been paying the price for being out and exploring as it was.

We can blame that on the pirate nature in me, I suppose.

Regardless, I think you're correct on waiting until the ash relaxes. Perhaps we'll find something more interesting then.

I'm wondering why you went outside to make the entry in the first place. Was there not enough light indoors?

...Pirate?

In that case, I'll be looking forward to it.

I've ran out of books to read here and I was hoping the high school might have some of interest.

Well, I'll keep that in mind. Thank you, Professor; I appreciate the kindness.

How are things on your end?

It's no trouble at all.

I'm alright, all things considering. No injuries or illnesses. Silk and I've been considering moving out of Latimir, thanks to the damage.

That probably isn't a terrible idea, especially if there are future quakes; the building was already hit fairly hard once, who's to say it wouldn't happen again?

Well, Marshall's held out for a year, even with all of the earthquakes. You're right, though. It's too bad we can't make more housing for ourselves -- if this city continues to have more immigrants, we're eventually going to run out of apartments.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were other societies elsewhere on this planet.

Regardless, perhaps it's time there was an investment towards new housing? I'm sure there are builders here; although, maybe if we're lucky, we'll get someone from where I am from to come and help us . . .

Nor would I. You've seen the television broadcasts, haven't you?

Oh? Someone from your world? An architect or builder, perhaps?

Television broadcasts? What's a television? Is it like telephones?

Franky is a shipwright, though, I'm fairly certain he's talented at building other things as well.

A television is a piece of technology -- basically a box that has sound and moving pictures on the screen in the front of it. Much like the video function of our communicators, only larger.

I see. It would be worth a try at any rate, if he ever appeared.

I believe so, but if you want to see one functioning, you'll have to wait for the next broadcast. The ones I've seen are broken, and I believe we've lost most of our electricity -- but they work during the broadcast regardless. I suspect either magic or advanced technology is involved.

How interesting. Please let me know if you see the next one. Perhaps I'll be fortunate enough to see it next time.
